I'd been oblivious, deliberately, towards Goldfrapp- had I overplayed Portishead & Lamb & 'Maxinquaye'& 'Oedipus Scmoedipus'etc? (Yes...) So, I had this track on a sampler & played it once; half-listening...Cut a few months later & Goldfrapp are on TV performing this track for the Mercury Awards- the song is familiar: Morricone-style whistling that is put on the latest fad of 'Chill Out' albums. No, cut back to the performance of 'Lovely Head'- yes, this song is perfect. The voice of 'Pumpkin' & 'Are we Here?' etc. The flux of soundtrack & electronica; John Barry meets Barry Adamson...And Alison Goldfrapp, looking like a pop-star should. Her cap & outfit reminding me of the late Billy Mackenzie's TOTP performance for Associates 'Partyfearstwo'. Yes, Alison Goldfrapp is a female Billy Mackenzie; Shirley Bassey meets Philip Glass. This record is fantastic (as is 'Felt Mountain'); a highlight of the 21st century thus far. A fantastic single. Purchase & love forever...
