Ms. Busbee really knows her stuff when it comes to telling an engrossing tale.
Chock full of plot, details & romance!
I read this book both from a reader & an author's point of view. Every time I would think to myself, if I were writing this I'd have such & such happen--Ms. Busbee would follow thru on my hopes.
No disappointments in this book.
Set in Historical New Orleans, shortly after the Louisiana purchase, the people behave as they would in those times.
The story centers around Micaela Dupree a beautiful French Cerole and Hugh Lancaster a handsome American.
The Dupree family is quite put out when Hugh Lancaster is granted shares in the company the Dupree & Lancaster family jointly own, and discover Hugh is going to move to New Orleans.
The company has been losing business and Hugh is determined to uncover the reason why.
Plots abound amoung the Dupree men and their friends. Micaela's honor & reputation are compromised, a duel is fought, and lovers' secrets are revealed all in timely fashion.
Micaela Dupree makes a marvelous, spirited heroine, as smart as she is sassy, and Hugh is a very likeable hero.
I especially liked Hugh's tenderness and concern as well as his passionate feelings of love for Micaela.
The erotically romantic scenes between Hugh & Micaela are especially well written.

Don't People Talk to Each Other Anymore? 9 Jun. 2012
By Miss Ani Rae - Published on

So I liked this book quite a lot, but my biggest issue was with the fact that if the two main characters--Micaela and Hugh--would have just sat down and TALKED to each other, a good portion of the novel wouldn't have happened. I did end up giving it four starts, however, because even though they didn't talk about the issues they were having until way later on in the novel, it was a pleasurable read and I found myself wanting to hit both Micaela and Hugh over the head for being idiots and waiting in anticipation for the moment that they would realize they actually loved each other.

Never a dull moment with this book. It was filled with so many twists and turns and oh so enjoyable. At first I was a little bit disappointed because I thought the characters from the first two books were going to show up in this one. I was sad that they didn't. However.....

I was hooked from the beginning so I continued to read until I just finished the book. It was filled with mysterious happenings, lies that ruined so many lives yet in the end turned out better than I could have imagined.

My biggest problem is that I hate stories to end! I know they must but, I get so engrossed in them that when they end it saddens me. You did a marvelous job on these books Shirlee! Thank you so much.

I love Shirlee Busbee, she is one of my most favorite authors but this book is definitely not her best. It is not a bad story, no, just not her best. Plot is typical: hero & heroine are trapped into marriage because they get caught in the rain & stay together unchaperoned for a long time. There is also the "Big Misunderstanding". Just felt a bit like copy/paste of countless other stories.
As always 's. Busbee delivered again! 23 Jun. 2014

Only two things I wish to address, hence the 4 star rating vs. the 5. Certain spots were predictable and I love to be surprised. Secondly, an Epilogue would have been great to see a few years later how everything worked out. So much was divulged near the end, it would be nice to know how it all turned out in time. I guess what I'm talking about is closure. All I all, a fun read!
