Book Description

A hugely entertaining memoir by one of the UK's most experienced and popular radio DJs.

Product Description

The story of how a painfully shy boy from the suburbs of Southampton made it to the biggest radio station in the UK, and just about managed to stay there...

Scott Mills is a daily companion to millions of listeners as the host of the afternoon show on Radio 1 - a station that has been his home for over 14 years. Whether regaling us with a typically embarrassing celebrity anecdote or trying to control a particularly chaotic round of 'Innuendo Bingo', his company is always brilliantly entertaining, thanks to his infectious enthusiasm and easygoing manner. But behind the microphone sits a man whose route to the top has been anything but straightforward.

In this witty and endearingly honest autobiography, Scott describes his incredible career and the hurdles he's faced along the way. Aside from the sometimes humiliating - and frequently hilarious - jobs that are part and parcel of a local radio DJ's apprenticeship, he's had to deal with crippling anxiety attacks, alcohol and weight issues, and a great deal more over the years. But his desire to land his dream job has always prevailed, and he's now one of the nation's favourite radio and television broadcasters, travelling the world on both serious assignments and altogether more bizarre adventures.

From washing cars on a garage forecourt off the A4 in the name of radio entertainment, to encounters with some of the world's biggest celebrities, Love You Bye provides Scott's legions of fans with a fascinating look at the man whose voice they know so well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finished it in an afternoon! 6 Sep 2012

As a longtime listener of Scott's show I was interested to read more about him. I really did read it all in a couple of hours on my kindle (which I was THRILLED to see still contains the autobiography pictures that I was wondering whether the kindle version would include.) I found that I had heard some of the stories on the radio show before, but this is not a bad thing it just shows that Scott really is himself on the radio. Love You Bye makes me genuinely want to be friends with Scott Mills, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who listens to the show or who is a fan of Scott.

5.0 out of 5 stars Him off of Radio 1 31 Aug 2012

I absolutely adore Scott Mills and this autobiography didn't disappoint! Not only does it explain his journey to and time on Radio 1 but also what happened when the microphones were off. I would definitely recommend this is if you are a fan of him and his team, or if you just want to see the big reveal on who boffed ke$ha...

5.0 out of 5 stars Typical Scott - and I love it!!! 30 Aug 2012
Format:Hardcover
I love Scott Mills on the radio, but wasn't too sure whether I wanted to read "his story"; anecdotes fine but his life story not so much.

Lured by the possibility of finding out who boffed Ke$ha I bought a copy of Love You Bye this morning. Yes, it does start back when he was a young (moonfaced) boy in Southampton but it is written in typical Scott fashion and so strike a good balance between being witty and moving.

I haven't read much yet (could only read on the commute to work) but am already looking forward to my journey home so I can continue with it. If you are in two minds, I would definitely recommend you get it - well worth it.

I haven't got to the Ke$ha bit yet, but I did skip ahead to read about it (!) but no I am not going to divulge - buy the book yourself to see if Scott lets on!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Too short and lacks a punch 19 Sep 2012
Format:Hardcover
I'm a long time listener to Scott's show and think he's a great bloke.
But this autobiography is a huge let down. Firstly, once you take away the photos, it comes in at under 200 pages. In a relatively large font. I'd expect that in an autobiography of a One Direction member, not a man who's been around as long as Scott.

It feels rushed... key moments in his life like the loss of a loved on are glossed over in a few short pages, we never really get to know why he was such a profound person in Scott's life.
Likewise his coming out - he explains how he told his family, but there's no details on growing up gay at school, how his friends reacted etc. I know he doesn't want his sexuality to define him, but in an autobiography it deserves more than the space it received.

Equally his descent into alcohol abuse is also interesting, but then suddenly seems to end - it's as if he feels like he'll be boring us if if he dedicates more than two pages to any one subject.

Chapters on his documentary for BBC3 about the world's worst place to be gay are fascinating - it's clearly a subject he feels passionate about - it's a shame that he's not as passionate about telling us about the rest of his life.

If you don't really care about Scott and just want celebrity anecdotes, then this is for you. But often they are too brief. Chapters feel like links between songs - brief and to the point, with no flesh to their bones sp as not to bore the reader/ listener before the next song is played.

This book is for people with a low attention span who wants a quick read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finished it in one day 30 April 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is one of my favourite books, i am a huge fan of scott and his work, he is the main reason why i love radio and why i work in it. I can't have any more respect for him after reading this. If your a fan and apprehensive just buy and read it- it is like listening to one of his show but its just about him. I can not say anything more than this is a fantastic read and well worth the money and its a shame he can write another one
