Spain released, PAL/Region 0 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), Spanish ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), Spanish ( Subtitles ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Black & White, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Italian-American Macy's shop-girl Angie Rossini still lives at home - a small apartment - with her widowed mother and her three protective brothers. She considers her life like living in a fishbowl, where her brothers control everything: what she does, who she sees and to who she should get married. That intended husband is Anthony Columbo, a shy, clumsy man, with who she doesn't hear the "bells and banjos" she envisions with romantic love. As an act of defiance, Angie has a one-night stand - her first and only sexual encounter - with womanizing jazz trumpeter Rocky Papasano, a man she doesn't even know. Rocky escaped a life much like Angie's. His Italian-American parents still live in the Bowery where he grew up and where he doesn't visit often as it reminds him of the repressive lifestyle of unhappy married people as witnessed by his old neighborhood friends. Angie manages to track down Rocky to tell him that she is pregnant with his child. Despite barely remembering Angie, Rocky decides to help Angie with the one and only thing she requests: the name of a doctor to abort the pregnancy. As Angie and Rocky spend the day together leading up to the scheduled abortion, they begin to get to know each other in all its good and bad. This day begins the process of both really figuring out what they want in life. ...Love with the Proper Stranger

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL (FORGOTTEN) FILM!!!!!! 16 July 2010
Format:DVD
I found this film by chance on youtube one evening....it is a great
film with these two really classy actors....Natalie Wood and Steve
McQueen....what a pair!!! And it is about a subject, 'abortion',
that is still out there for us to be dealing with today....here dealt
with so well for the time!!!!
Despite the fact that it is a black and white film....no matter!!!
I highly recommend this movie.....why isn't it available??!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Under-rated AND superb 2 April 2010
Format:DVD
I saw this by accident many years ago - nothing to do one evening, went to the local cinema.

There are two superb performances by Wood and McQueen, and many hilarious support actors who all do a wonderful job. It is extraordinarily funny in a slow-burn way, and is one of my all-time favourite films. Watch out for the lovely and clumsy fast-food operative who tries to woo Wood. He never finishes a sentence. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars sixties ,a good one 6 Nov 2011

Format:DVD
Saw this film back in the day ,loved it then, still love it.Abortion, taboo then and against the law,was well handled here, with steve and natalie at their peak, good cast across the board.classed as a comedy, but was bleak in its way because many girls found themselves in this sort of jam,but for all that i still loved it,and still get it out view it from time to time sueb

5.0 out of 5 stars Is this dvd in English 26 Feb 2014
By Mary
Format:DVD
A great movie that should have been on DVD many years ago. I hope it will be released in region 1 soon in English.. I am trying to figure out if the main language in this movie is English because it says Spanish subtitles, but does not say which languge the movie is spoken in . that information has been left out. It should say "English" under Language, but there is no Language listed and usually there is.
The language on the cover of the DVD is in Spanish, so is confusing as to main language in the film.

1.0 out of 5 stars SPANISH 23 April 2014

Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Please be aware this is in Spanish, not quite sure how I missed that - the quality is dreadful, so as tempting as it is to owe this wonderful film, do not waste your money here.
