More About the Author

Nick Spalding is an author who, try as he might, can't seem to write anything serious.

Before becoming a full-time author, he worked in the communications industry, mainly in media and marketing. As talking rubbish for a living can get tiresome (for anyone other than a politician), he thought he'd have a crack at writing comedy fiction - with a very agreeable level of success so far, it has to be said. Nick has now sold over half a million books, and still can't quite believe his luck.

Nick lives in the South of England with his fiancée. He recently had to turn 40 - and is rather annoyed at the universe because it gave him no choice in the matter; he also suffers from the occasional bout of insomnia, is addicted to Thai food, and still thinks Batman is cool.

Review

Already an eBook hit, Love and Sleepless Nights is finally out in old-fashioned paperback, so you have no excuse not to treat yourself to this funny, truthful tale of a newly married couple who find themselves having a baby much sooner than they expected! (New!)

... a hilarious, emotional and painfully honest account of having children... Yet again Nick Spalding managed to make me laugh until my sides hurt and I had tears running down my face. The camping scenario causing me to stop breathing from laughter. Not only did I laugh I got quite emotional too. That is down to the sheer brilliance of Spalding's writing. Beneath the laughter is yet again a remarkable story of a couple who are genuinely in love. I really look forward to any more Jamie and Laura books. I'm now off to order every book that Nick Spalding has written. (Shaz's Book Boudoir Blog)

'I don't want to say too much about this book because it is genuinely hilarious and I worry that I might ruin it by talking about events that happen. But what I will say is that there are many laugh out loud moments... at a few points I was overcome with laughter and ended up snorting with laughter in quite an embarrassing way, but the story is so funny that you just can't help yourself!

I've not long finished reading this fantastic novel and I already cannot wait to see what Nick Spalding brings out next!

Love...And Sleepless Nights is such a fun book! It will make you cry with laughter! It is hilarious, highly enjoyable and it is a book that you won't want to put down. I'm now telling everyone I know to give it a try! Brilliant'.

(Reading in the Sunshine Blog)

A pure laugh out loud roller coaster of a story that entertained my colleagues and myself for a day...packed with witty dialogue, colourful language that regularly changed the pages blue and ridiculous scenarios that made for wonderfully funny reading. 'Love and Sleepless Nights' is a delightfully witty and crude story, about finding the one, settling down into married life and having to deal with the unexpected bump in the night. A story that had me howling with laughter until my sides ached, this book is a refreshing coming of age love story and Nick Spalding is definitely an author I shall be looking into. I took a chance and purchased this at the same time as the first book "Love... From Both Sides", hoping that they were the "laugh out loud romantic comedies" that were claimed. Having indeed laughed out loud during "Love... From Both Sides" and being unable to put that down, I started reading this straight away and found that I had a sleepness night through telling myself "just one more chapter..."

The story alternates between Jamie's blog and Laura's diary, just like the first book. I quite like this style, as they are writing their thoughts as well as describing their experiences, allowing you to relate to Laura and Jamie. The stories that they tell of Laura's pregnancy and the first year of raising their daughter are funny because you can imagine them happening in real life to some degree. That said, there is one scene just after the birth of their daughter where it does get a bit serious, but because you've already gotten to relate to and understand Laura and Jamie, you are able to feel for them during that particular struggle.

Perhaps the one suggestion I would make to anyone considering buying this is to read "Love... From Both Sides" first. There are some events from the first book that are inferred here, plus it jumps into the story very early (Laura discovers her pregnancy in the first chapter), so it is somewhat assumed you already know a bit about the characters. Other than that, enjoy!

Love and Sleepless Nights is one of the funniest books that has been transformed into paperback from a E-book. The story is set out in the form of Jaime's Blog and Laura's Diary, it switches between both of their points of view in each date that is talked about.

The story starts in Laura point of view where she has a eventful day in the city of London, Laura use to own a chocolate shop but as many businesses it was hit hard by the recession and has now decided to sell what is left of her dream business and work for a chocolate company instead. Though Laura day just keeps on getting worse and worse, starting with the job interview from hell and ending with her finding out she is pregnant.

The next chapter/entry is in Jaime's Blog, he is such a funny character with the way his thoughts are written in the book but also in the conversations he has with people. You could just imagine Jaime to be just like any typical male with the phases but he is also very dedicated to his wife, Laura. They are a perfect couple who just got married and a mishap happens (i.e Laura ending up pregnant) as they were still in honeymoon mode.

Laura's Diary is mainly talking abut things that have happened but each one is addressed to her mother, where as Jaime's Blog is just him talking and remembering things that have happened. Each person's point of view is different from the other, which I think is really great as in most stories you only get to hear one person's side. This is why I love books that can reflect each main characters point of view and can still be thrilling to read, just like Love and Sleepless Nights is, simply amazing storyline and easy to follow.

Honestly, I saw it was cheap, I saw the immortal words Laugh Out Loud and I wasn't expecting much. I figured a cheap piece of brain fluff that might raise a wry smile to combat my insomnia and get me through an hour or two before morning. What I wasn't expecting was to be laughing so hard I actually penetrated the sound wall that is my husband snoring and disturbed him to the point where I had to move downstairs where I promptly made a cup of tea grabbed myself a garibaldi and wept with laughter all the way through the book.
Hits way too many home runs with my life which leads me to fear I am in fact the disaster I try to pretend I'm not but hey, it might make a good book!
Seriously, in this world of misery and poorly written 'erotic' literature that somehow makes it in to the best sellers list do yourself a favour, buy this book, enjoy the ride and remember that life is about fun and laughing. It does us good once in a while to laugh from the belly and this book will make you do just that.

Nick, you did it again!

This is a fantastic laugh loudly book. As a parent you go through so many adventures, lots wonderful, some heartbreaking, others down right embarrassing. Nick Spalding's Love... And Sleepless Nights tell of all. I laughed, cried, laughed some more, and after passed it on to everyone I know. You get some books that give a chuckle and some people say, 'Oh yeah, it's funny" This isn't one of them. It will have you crying with laughter, snotting and dribbling with belly laughs at the adventures of these new parents. Read it. You will NOT regret it. Nick, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Keep writing, you're bloody brill!!

One of the books that left a lasting impression on me this year was Love From Both Sides by Nick Spalding. I can't tell you how many people I told to pick up a copy of this book and gave them a warning that they will never look at a pedal bin without laughing again! Having enjoyed this book so much I was eager to read the sequel Love and Sleepless Nights, although I was a little unsure if it would be able to compete with such a great first book.

Newlyweds Jamie and Laura should be enjoying their new lives together but things don't go to plan when they find out that Laura is pregnant. This wasn't part of their plan. The story alternates between Laura's point of view, which is written in her diary to her mum, to Jamie's point of view, which he writes on his blog. This style of writing worked really well in this book. It allows the reader to really get to relate to the characters and to see their views and feelings about situations first hand. The couple face many challenging situations during both the pregnancy and the baby Poppy's first year all which provides us with many laughs!

This was another entertaining read by Spalding and it was a great sequel to Love Form Both Sides, I still feel the first book is unbeaten as that one had me spitting with laughter whereas this book I found very entertaining and comical but I wasn't laughing out loud. I love how well the author manages to write both the male and females character equally well. Both of the characters are very down to earth and the problems and struggles they face are realistic and I am sure people will relate to one or two of them.

I do think you need to read the first book before reading this one as there are some parts that they talk about in the previous book and also you build up a relationship with the characters in the first book so they feel familiar by the time you read book 2. If you want a comical, easy read then this one is calling out to you.
