4.0 out of 5 stars Generally very good for beginners 12 Feb 2012
By Miss K TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback
This book is good if you're just starting to learn how to sew with a machine. It's not the prettiest book or the most 'well-known' but it's generally well laid out and the pictures are big and clear which makes it easier to follow the instructions.

The projects themselves are fairly simple so you won't be overwhelmed with too many steps. The projects have clearly been chosen to help familiarize yourself with various 'sewing basics.' When I first started to sew, I bought lots of books on sewing and then realized it was actually really impossible to make anything when I didn't have any real awareness of the basics - this book really helps with that.

The only let down is that the book follows the format of: 1 double page showcasing what you're making + 1 double page showing you how to make it. This means that sometimes there isn't a picture when there should have been so it's a bit difficult to see how to get from one step to the next. This isn't a problem for every project but I think it could have been easily rectified by using three pages for instructions (where necessary) rather than two.

Overall I would say this is a useful book, with projects well-aimed at beginners. It will help you to get a grasp of the basics and start applying what you've learnt to the projects shown in the book. Generally easy-to-follow instructions but it's best to read through a project before you start to make something, just to make sure you can definitely follow it.

4.0 out of 5 stars simple, bright and cheerful 12 Feb 2011
By K. Platt TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This book has all you need to take you through the basics of sewing. Build your skills by working your way through simple projects with added touches to make them special. Stylish projects mainly for the home are aimed at the less experienced, younger sewer using bright, cheerful fabrics. Instructions are clear and photography is good.
