Product Description

Bruno Thorne is the self-crowned king of Mariscombe, a faded seaside resort crammed with chip shops and amusement arcades. But things are on the turn because the resort has been picked as a potential holiday hot-spot. Meanwhile, George Law wants to do for Mariscombe what Rick Stein did for Padstowe (even though he's not entirely sure what to do with a red mullet) and, thanks to a last minute cock-up by the estate agent, outbids Bruno for the rundown Rocks hotel. At last he can realise his dream and, with his gorgeous ex-lingerie model girlfriend Lisa at his side, surely nothing can hold him back ... But George hasn't counted on disgruntled locals, infuriating ex-wives ... or Bruno Thorne's apparent interest in Lisa. With another splash hit on her hands, bestselling novelist Veronica Henry moves to the seaside and delivers the perfect holiday read.

Superb 24 Jan 2007
Format:Paperback
Fantastic from start to finish - Love on the Rocks follows the tale of when feisty ex-model Lisa and her stuffy architect boyfriend George take a chance on love and life and set up shop in the up and coming seaside resort of Mariscombe. From the moment Lisa smells Bruno Thorne (the handsome and mysterical local big cheese) in the bakers, we know that something is coming.. and when it does I was delighted. With superb supporting characters, and great hidden depths to the main characters, this is sure to be a Summer favourite of mine for years to come.

I have to be honest, when I bought this it was on the basis of the colourful cover and the blurb on the back, both of which made me believe I'd picked up a light chick-lit read in the style of Carol Matthews or Sophie Kinsella. How wrong I was!

This is the story of a couple who are trying to find themselves, each other and what they really want from life. And what they want isn't necessarily what they think they want. There are lots of other characters involved in the story, each and every one of them well developed with a personality of their own and I found myself caring about each of them. I can't say I necessarily liked them all, but I cared about the outcome for them. What I particularly enjoyed was the fact that each of them grew in some way. Only a very clever author can bring so many lives together and have each of them develop in an interesting manner.

This isn't a laugh a minute book although there are a few giggles and it's far from a deep read. It's thought provoking in places and several times it made me want to cry.

If you want something that offers a little more than chick lit but that's still an easy beach read, this one may well be exactly what you're after.

Chic lit at it's best
