5.0 out of 5 stars Superb 24 Jan. 2007
Fantastic from start to finish - Love on the Rocks follows the tale of when feisty ex-model Lisa and her stuffy architect boyfriend George take a chance on love and life and set up shop in the up and coming seaside resort of Mariscombe. From the moment Lisa smells Bruno Thorne (the handsome and mysterical local big cheese) in the bakers, we know that something is coming.. and when it does I was delighted. With superb supporting characters, and great hidden depths to the main characters, this is sure to be a Summer favourite of mine for years to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love on the Rocks 13 Oct. 2012

I absolutely love Veronica Henry's books. Though they are a bit 'chick lit' they make compelling reading. Her characters are so interesting! This one is a lovely read for the beach - preferably a warm beach - but also anywhere. I truly cannot put Veronica's books down! Wonderful stuff, if a little over sprinkled with designer names here and there, but maybe that makes the stories come to life!

5.0 out of 5 stars So Much More Than Chick Lit 22 Aug. 2006
I have to be honest, when I bought this it was on the basis of the colourful cover and the blurb on the back, both of which made me believe I'd picked up a light chick-lit read in the style of Carol Matthews or Sophie Kinsella. How wrong I was!

This is the story of a couple who are trying to find themselves, each other and what they really want from life. And what they want isn't necessarily what they think they want. There are lots of other characters involved in the story, each and every one of them well developed with a personality of their own and I found myself caring about each of them. I can't say I necessarily liked them all, but I cared about the outcome for them. What I particularly enjoyed was the fact that each of them grew in some way. Only a very clever author can bring so many lives together and have each of them develop in an interesting manner.

This isn't a laugh a minute book although there are a few giggles and it's far from a deep read. It's thought provoking in places and several times it made me want to cry.

If you want something that offers a little more than chick lit but that's still an easy beach read, this one may well be exactly what you're after.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight but enjoyable story 15 April 2015
The term 'chick-lit' could have been coined for this book. Having said that, I enjoyed it. As other people have said, it's a good holiday read that you can pick up or leave lying if you've got something better to do! It was easy to see the direction it was heading in from fairly early on but that's ok - it was a pleasant journey heading there. The blurb on the back made it sound rather more interesting than it actually was, as the hints of 'an arch-rival' and 'sabotage' were hardly more than red herrings in the event. But it was a nice story with a happy ending which is always nice. I may read more of hers, if my daughter gives them to me like she did this one ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely story 23 Feb. 2007
A great, easy to read book. Perfect for a lazy day on the beach or a winter evening curled up with a glass of wine.

Lots of interesting characters and a good story. I read it in an evening, and though it doesn't require a lot of concentration - it is quite a page turner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining read 22 Feb. 2014
By Sharon
Format:Kindle Edition
I'd only read a couple of Veronica Henry's books before so when I was offered a review copy of Love on the Rocks, which has just been re-issued, I decided to add it to my growing reading list.

After one tacky job too far model Lisa decides she's had enough and walks out on the job, meanwhile boyfriend George has his own problems at work so when she gets home they decide to get away from it all and head off for an impromptu weekend away to the seaside resort of Mariscombe.

Whilst there Lisa she falls in love with the rundown hotel they are staying at, The Rocks, seeing it for its future potential, and convinces George that this would be the perfect opportunity for them to leave their old lives behind and make a fresh start for themselves in Devon.

But they have stiff competition from local entrepreneur Bruno Thorne who would love to add The Rocks to his empire so isn't going to make life easy for them, and when some surprise guests turn up on their doorstep one thing's for sure life will certainly be eventful...

This was such a delightful story with a whole host of interesting characters, other than Lisa, George and Bruno, some you'll love and some you'll probably not, who each had their own tales to tell which all contributed to make this an enjoyable read.

I particularly enjoyed getting to know more about Bruno and Molly, a chambermaid at Bruno's own hotel, and their pasts which were the reasons they were both so driven to make a success for themselves and their families.

This book would make the perfect beach read this Summer or perhaps like me you can read it on a cold dreary winter's night and be whisked away to the Devon coastline ;-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Never take things for granted 13 July 2015
I received this book as an audio book .
I really enjoyed this story and I do like Veronica Henry's style of writing. Easy paced it always reminds me of H E Bates and "The darling buds .....". This story has 5/6 characters brought together in one setting and how they all reach their satisfactory "happy ever after". With quite a few little twists to the story line the interest value of the book is maintained and the listener / reader can't take the ending for granted. A thoroughly recommended story
