By Mr. H TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
I was never a big fan of Regurgitator, although I own and admire their early single ' I Sucked A Lot Of Cock To Get Where I Am Today", an admirably honest comment on the world of entertainment. Seems that time has not withered their ability to come up with a catchy title, if the opening number here is anything to go by. 'Blood And Spunk' it's called, seeing as how you ask.

And it's another in a long line of melodic, new wave influenced pop / punk anthems that the Gurgs seem to able to whip up at will, and with increasing panache. They do give catchy chorus, and have a fair number of head bobbing moments tucked away on this album, something all too apparent when they follow it up with 'Drinking Beer Is Awesome'.

However, Regurgitator do have one problem, and that is a lack of a distinct identity. Outside their fan base I defy anyone to pick one of them out a crowd, or hum one of their tunes. Something not helped by a scattershot approach to songwriting that sees their albums veering off in a multitude of directions. This time around it's even more varied with the introduction of female vocalist Seja Vogel on some of the tunes.

But, dammit, there's something rather loveable about them, even though you know they're destined to suffer from the curse of Redd Kross, writing some great tunes for a small but fanatic following, before heading off into the mists of memory, only to be recalled by a handful of greying, balding fans, gathered in the back room of a dingy pub to quietly share stories of their lives as Regurgitatorettes. Which is a real shame, as slightly perverse songs like 'Romance Of The Damned' and the Phil Collins baiting 'Destroy This Town' are deserving of a much wider audience.

But, hey, you could build a substantial house using unsold copies of 'Love Junk' by The Pursuit Of Happiness or 'Third Eye' by Redd Kross, but maybe the introduction of more mainstream pop tunes like 'Michelle' will help them beat the curse. Bringing intelligence to the masses is usually a bad idea, but kudos to Regurgitator for keeping the flag flying.

Nowhere near as good as their early CDs 26 July 2010

If you are new to The 'Gurge I would strongly suggest "Unit" or "Art" - far more creative/imaginative than this CD. I was disappointed hoping for more of the same.
