For Keith Urban’s sixth studio album, Get Closer, the singer-songwriter dives even
deeper into the explorations of love and relationships that have established him as one
of the world's biggest country music stars—while also extending his rock & roll side,
as his hard-charging guitar work reaches new heights. The album is the follow-up to

Product Description

It's tempting to read these songs--many about hope in the face of potential heartbreak--as an adjunct to Keith Urban's own tabloid-fodder life, which lately reads "ex-junkie country star marries Nicole Kidman, enters rehab." But his three previous albums have similar dark undertones. That would also be an underestimation of Urban's creative powers, which are broad enough to balance assembly-line Nashville pop with emotionally fine-tuned artistry. Breezy rockers like "Faster Car," sweet hooky ballads like "Shine," and readymade big-chorus hits like "Once in a Lifetime" rub elbows with more complex numbers like "I Can't Stop Loving You"--an essay about sad courage that starts with an acoustic guitar and adds instrumental textures as it unfolds--and "Stupid Boy," a tale of loss and self-discovery. It's no coincidence that both those songs climax with Urban's own crying guitar solos. As a player, his bold, midrange-heavy tone complements his most nuanced vocal performances. Another highlight is "Raise the Barn," which Urban co-wrote and sings with Ronnie Dunn. The cheerful tune, inspired by the survivors of Hurricane Katrina, is a tribute to the durability of the human spirit--a subject Urban seems to know more than a little about. --Ted Drozdowski

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Fine Effort 26 Nov 2006
Format:Audio CD
Why Keith Urban hasn't cracked the Uk market I will never know. He is clearly the most talented music artist around at the moment. Maybe it is lack of marketing or promotion or the fact that most people will dismiss him as just another country artist without actually listening to his records.

This is a poor assumption to make as Keith Urban writes terrific commercial songs with killer hooks and amazing guitar riffs. He also plays countless other instruments on his records ro prove how talented he is.

The album starts off with a bang with Once in a Lifetime a really good uplifting song which was his first single release from the new album.

Other highlights include Used to the Pain, Faster Car, Wont Let you Down and Shine. My favourite track by a mile is I Told You so. It is a belter of a track and is as good as any Urban classic from previous albums.

This album probably won't give Urban the recognistion he deserves in Britain but it will further cement him as a superstar in the USA. Those of us who do appreciate Keith Urban will love this album. It is another fine effort and a great addition to the already impressive Keith Urban catalogue.

3.0 out of 5 stars Where's the highlight? 15 Nov 2006
Format:Audio CD
I'm not a great fan of Keith Urban but there's a lot about this CD I like. Accepted very much as a country star in the US (where recently won Best Male Singer at the CMA Awards), he seems to be marketed more as a MOR/soft rock singer over here

Strange though that the Amazon review above comments on the track "Raise the Barn", a duet with Ronnie Brooks, of Brooks & Dunn fame, calling it a highlight, when the track has been left off the UK edition because it was deemed to be 'too country'! And I think it's the best track on the set ironically!!

Listen to the first twenty minutes of this CD and I'm sure you'll love it! And as for "I Can't Stop Loving You" (yes, it's the Leo Sayer song from the 70s!), the guitar solo at the end has gotta be the best in years!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Keith Urban - Fantastic!! 14 Nov 2006
Format:Audio CD
Being a keith urban fan I guess I am biased but his new album is great! I do prefer 'Be Here' (his last album) but this new album offers a new sound from keith and sounds less country and more pop/bryan adams. From the album there are two songs that I am not too keen on but the rest are great. Brilliant guitar pieces which are catchy and most of the songs are up beat. There are not as many slow slushy songs on this album but the general tone of the album is about love and relationships. This album is easy to listen to and great to have on in the car - buy it now!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Country or rock......who cares!? 10 Aug 2007
Format:Audio CD
Keith Urban is, in my opinion, one of the most under-rated musical talents I've had the joy of listening to. This album is up there with all the others, though he will have to go some to beat Golden Road. Such a shame the UK leg of the world tour has been postponed, live on stage he's even better! It doesn't matter if you don't like country music, he's a rocker AND an extremely gifted musician, no doubt about it. He's endured life's lows and enjoyed it's highs, and this is all reflected in his music. Buy this album, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great crossover album 6 July 2007
By Redrum
Format:Audio CD
Take the best studio musicians and song writers Nashville has to offer, add a lot of Keith Urban, mix it up with some fine recording, and smart song choices. There you go. One fine album. Yet, still in the back of your mind you know he'll play it even better in concert.

He's got that Shania Twain, Garth Brooks crossover pop/country/rock thing happening here. Very well done. Good cruisin' music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love, Pain & The Whole Crazy Thing - Top Album 10 Aug 2007
Format:Audio CD
This is a must for anyone who appreciates great musical talent, Keith Urban has secured massive hits in the US with I Told You So, Stupid Boy and no doubt with the soon to be released "spine tingling" track Everybody. Don't just take my word though, go and buy this album, you're in for a real treat.
