I was introduced to this duo only recently via their critically acclaimed first album. I enjoyed that so much I thought I would move on to Love Over and Over.
The album is superb. It is on a par with the first album. They really do write some beautiful songs. Jesus Lifeline, Star Cab Company and I Cried for us are all exquisite. One or two of the songs, such as the title track, are a bit more upbeat than usual and maybe took a bit more getting used to, but this is really just a case of getting used to the style, as they are excellent songs also.
These sisters are a real hidden gem. Why they have not been more commercially successful is beyond me.

This CD contains a number of songs that make you think about so many things, but in a down to earth way. The McGarrigle sisters have lovely voices, backed by great musicians and each song you hear takes you somewhere you've been before without always realising it. Sun, Son and Love over and over are exceptional but every track is a gem. Don't miss this CD if you like real music played and sung from the heart.

The poignancy of the songs on this 1982 album by the Canadian sisters is all the greater for the sad passing of Kate not so long ago. Just as the inextricable Everly Brothers are no more since Phil died, neither are the McGarrigles. But they have left us a legacy of generally flawless recordings, of which this is one of the loveliest.
Kate & Anna had the ability to write songs that were not only idiosyncratically original and compelling, but catchy too. This was obvious from their wonderful self-titled debut - remember Heart Like a Wheel, Talk To Me Of Mendocino, Kiss And Say Goodbye? - and it`s fully in evidence on these thirteen tracks (including two welcome extras on this CD release).
I can`t really pick out highlights, as all of it is out of the top drawer, the warmth and intelligence of the sisters` musical and lyrical sensibility shining through each beautifully arranged song. They`re joined by a roster of superb musicians, such as Gerry Conway, Pat Donaldson, Chaim Tannenbaum and, on the title track, a young Mark Knopfler.
There was always an hint of the French Quarter about the McGarrigles, with their judicious use of accordion and a certain Gallic quality to their sound, along with those gorgeous close harmonies, almost Bulgarian in their offbeat rightness.
Every song on this very fine record is as likeable as the last, whether Kate`s or Anna`s is the leading voice. Siometimes it`s hard to tell the difference, though Kate was perhaps the vocally `tougher` of the two, with Anna possessing a kind of tangy sweetness. Together, they sound like heaven.
All in all, this is probably my favourite of their albums.

Highly recommended.

There are plenty of good sing along songs on this CD and it is characteristic of the cheerful songs of the earlier days of Anna and Kate McGarrigle. This is the sound of the McGarrigles as I got to know it in the eighties. The songs are very melodious and would stand up without any musical accompaniment. The mi-usic of the title song makes one think of ABBA, but the text has, of course, a sharper edge.
I think it was a sterling choice to add this to my CD collection. Highly recommended.

The title track is quirky genius and a whole album of this quality would have been quite something but sadly the rest of the tracks are tiresome and forgettable. Still 50% of this duo gave us Rufus & Martha so they deserve kudos for that alone...
