If one is an aficionado of MFK Fisher, how can you not love a book of her collected works? This is a small volume that celebrates her unrestrained appetites and appreciation of living. She died in 1992, so these for the most part are essays that have been published in her books.Anne Zimmerman has collected these creations; but in her introduction she implies that there are many works that are on the verge of being lost, having been published in magazines and other publications that are now, no longer in business. I would have wished that she published these other works that are not available in previously published books. Even if you have read and collected MFK's books this is something you probably would enjoy. `Love in a Dish' was published in `House Beautiful', `Love in a Shell' in `Travel and Leisure', `Wine is life' in the preface of 'Book of California Wine'; the other 8 have appeared in MFK's books. This is still a charming book for your collection and especially made for gift giving. It will inspire others with Fisher's love of food and living.

Get the Whipped Cream!,

This was intended for a Christmas gift. The recipient wasn't too thrilled. The entire series published by Penguin Books is really quite clever. They took works by famous individuals, some from the culinary world and reproduced them. I thought it was interesting to read about life in other times. Kudos to Penguin for doing this, anyway!
