Book Description

The past
On the sunny Isle of Jamaica, a baby girl was found abandoned behind a local church. No one knew where she came from. She seemed to have just dropped from the sky, possessing the most unique eyes, no one had ever seen before. They were blue, and under certain lighting, they would change to a incandescent prism of green, almost catlike. Caroline Faulkner grew up, searching for her past and running from her past. With the passing of time, she married Chamberlain Van Hamilton who loved her with every vestige of his being. But his love could not protect her from the tragedy that would beset both their lives. Caroline died looking at the baby that was like a reincarnation of her. “Please save my baby, she must live,” she repeated, until her face transformed into a vision of serenity, lifting the pain of a lifetime, leaving her with only the purity she was born with.

The Present
Drulietta Van Hamilton grew into a beautiful young woman, mastering the arts of karate, judo and how to shoot a gun. She traveled the world with her architect father, always on the move, or maybe on the run. Eventually, her father died, and she returned to the estate with hopes of raising her young son, giving him the stability that she craved as a child. Suddenly, everyone was referring to the resemblance she had for her mother, calling her a Willoween beauty, acting like they were seeing her for the first time. Then her beautiful life evolved into a nightmare. With the dawning of each new day, a new link was added to her chain of puzzle, making her enigmatic life even more complex. Her friends and her foes were dying. The estate became a focal point for marijuana trafficking; and she could trust no one, not even the police. Three links kept converging and yet remained separate. They were marijuana trafficking, her mother’s past, and ‘Friends in High Places’. Haunted by the nightmares that had become her realities, Drulietta struggled to learn the truth about her past.

The Future
Amid her chaotic existence, she met Chad Ogilvy, a young surgeon with secrets of his own. Sparks began to ignite between them, awakening passions that they may not be able to control. But the nightmare continued. Chad and her son were now in danger from the men, who erased her past, emphasizing the awareness that she may not have a future unless she solved the events of her twilight world.

About the Author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Charity Hope Hamilton Jacquett Tate was born on the Island of Jamaica. As a child, her bedroom window was a source of awe and wonderment as she watched the rising sun, spreading its incandescent rays across the clouds, rising majestically above the horizon. Then, in the evenings she used to bask in the serenity of watching the same sun, like a great ball of smoldering lights, disappearing into the unknown. Adventurous by nature, she migrated to the United States of America, and attended Kean University in Union, New Jersey. She obtained a B.S. degree in Accounting, but spent the major part of her career in Business Management. With the passing of time, she returned to her first passion which is writing. She was ten years old when she wrote her first poem, and dreamt of becoming an accomplished author. Love and Mayhem on the Sunny Isle of Jamaica is her first book. It is a romantic thriller with a dash of romance, mystery, and adventure; incorporating the beautiful scenery of the island in its action-filled pages. Hope Hamilton Tate loves to create poetry and appreciates the art of original writing. She adores the beauty of nature, hence the evocative Jamaican sceneries in her writing. In fact, one of the best ways to really see her is to peek inside her inner thoughts as she skillfully crafted each of the characters and the scenes in her book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder and Mayhem plus a big dose of mystery. 14 July 2014
By Alan Black - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Dru Van Hamilton is a beautiful young woman living on a huge private estate in sunny Jamaica. She is trained in self-defense, both hand-to-hand and with a gun, plus she has the unique ability to sense and see when her loved ones are in danger. Sound wonderful? It would be if you were not just 21 years old with a 5 year old son and the only relative you have left in the world is a world-class a-hole of a cousin. Her past is a mystery to everyone, including herself. Her mother's past is even more of a mystery. With her father recently dead, his protection is gone and she is beset on every side by people coming out of the woodwork. It is more than a little difficult for her to tell who is a friend and who is a foe. She can't even be sure if this new handsome doctor is interested in her for who she may be, for her inheritance or for just a `hit it and quit it' good time.

Tate has woven a mystery where no character has more than a small piece of the truth and she doesn't wrap up the suspense until the end of the book. My only real issue comes from wondering how many times someone can try to kill our protagonist before she becomes so frustrated that she pulls out her gun and just shoots first and asks questions later.

This book made me want to go to Jamaica, for nothing else except to see the vision that Tate has described and smell the food she put before us.

5.0 out of 5 stars A literary Masterpiece 5 Jun. 2014
By Kindle Customer - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book has it all: romance, suspense, adventure, mystery, humour, wit and paranormal phenomenon. The main characters are likeable and entertaining. The heroine Drulietta is courageous, despite her age and delicate features. She has an hilariously sharp tongue and knows karate, judo and how to shoot a gun. She possess a unique gift which was inherited, and an uncanny resemblance to her mother Caroline. Her mothers existence is a mystery, which unfolds when Drulietta pursues to unlock the secrets surrounding her mothers history and why she herself is in the centre of danger. The story has many plots, which I cannot divulge. This excerpt is just a tip of the iceberg. This is the author's first novel ,and it was brilliantly done. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reads Like A Wonderful Mix of Emily Bronte and Jackie Collins 3 Oct. 2014
By Uncle G - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
While reading this book I thought about Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte because this story is set on a big estate and the main character is a feisty woman who is traditional in some ways and very nontraditional in others. I was also thinking about the British Literature classics because there were many twists and turns in the relationships between the characters. There were characters who are dead but they still had a powerful influence on the action. There are twins, lost lovers, kidnappings, mistaken identities, passionate arguments, criminals, doctors, sibling rivalry and an orphan, just like in any good Charles Dickens classic. But this book also made me think about the hot-romance / action novels written by the sensational Jackie Collins, who is the opposite of Emily Bronte, because this story takes place on the hot tropical island of sunny Jamaica. The author vividly describes the magnificent sunrises, the crystal-clear waters, the rolling green hills, dense jungles, colorful animals and exotic foods of Jamaica. I recommend this book for anyone who wants a complicated plot with lots of family relationships between hot-blooded people who get into arguments, lie to each, insult each other and make up, plus they have bad guys lurking around, and sometimes they end up in the hospital after fights. They have more hidden secrets than you can fit in a master bedroom's walk-in closet. I look forward to Hope Hamilton Tate's next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Story 13 Oct. 2014
By Richard Lang - Published on
This is a tale of a young woman who must look past lies, and deceit to discover the truth of her mysterious heritage. Fearless to the task, she finds danger only a few steps ahead or behind her throughout this sweet story. While the plot provides more twists and turns than Lombard Street, Hope also does a wonderful job describing the beauty of the island we know as Jamaica. This is a story for everyone to read and enjoy.
