I was put onto this lady and this CD in particular by a friend who is based in New York. I always look out for singers whose output includes the great songbook standards and this lady and CD certainly fit the bill. It is also a bonus for me that she sings so many of my personal favourites. You know the feeling when you go to a show and you hope to hear 2 or 3 of the songs you love. This CD meets that criteria on all 13 songs making it a most lucky selection.
I did not know of this lovely vocalist prior to hearing about this CD. I am told that she has previously recorded for the ABC Paramount label and was known as Barbara Lyons.
A talented group of musicians back Barabara on the recordings John DI Martino Piano/MD; Warren Vache cornet; Paul Meyers guitar etc.

It Could Happen to You/ Say It Isn't So/ My Heart Stood Still/ I Got Lost in His Arms/ Mean to Me/ It's the Talk of the Town/ Moonglow/ Willow Weep for Me/ Comes Love/ Where Or When/ The Nearness of You/ There Will Never Be Another You/ For All We Know

This is a new vocalist to me. I purchased the disc after reading a positive review in Jazz Journal. There's nothing sensational, simply standard songs really well sung. Proper songs, a proper grown up singer.

The ups and downs of love 17 Dec. 2013
By Grady Harp - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Barbara Levy Daniels (or for those who have been following her career she is also known as Barbara Lyons) not only sings, she mesmerizes. She knows how to communicate the lyrics of songs we all know so well we could sing along with her, but then the magic of how she relates the meaning of what the song really means. Her voice is mellow and rich, true to pitch, full of expression and able to punctuate the ardor and the disappointment that love can bring.

Born and raised in Buffalo, NY but she performs regularly, having graced stages as nearby as NY State and as distant as Cuba and Vietnam. The ensemble that supports her so well is the following complete ensemble: Barbara Levy Daniels, Vocals, John DiMartino, Piano and Music Director, Warren Vache', coronet, Shinnosuke Takahashi, drums, Paul Meyers, acoustic guitar, and Boris Kozlov, Bass.

The tracks on this lush album are as follows:
It Could Happen to You
Say It Isn't So
My Heart Stood Still
I Got Lost in His Arms
Mean to Me
It's the Talk of the Town
Moonglow
Willow Weep for Me
Comes Love
Where Or When
The Nearness of You
There Will Never Be Another You
For All We Know

The old standards feel so right with Barbara that they seem like old lovers. She is sensationally communicative. Grady Harp, December 13
Listening to Barbara 1 Jan. 2014

First I listened. Then my significant other, who was listening with me, did something to the CD player that made the CD play continuously. Her voice and her lyrics kept us company for hours.

Aside from making me fall in love all over again, I was enchanted by the phrasing in each of the songs. I believe a voice is a gift, but I think phrasing is where the artistry comes in, and Barbara is that: an artist.

Bravo!
