4.0 out of 5 stars Don't expect a James album... 14 April 2011
Format:Audio CD
...this is most definitely a Tim Booth album, and an intensely personal one at that. The album starts somewhat slowly, and I admit feeling some trepidation as the first couple songs were pleasant, but not very engaging. The first single, "All About Time," is a quick little ditty, but ultimately not very meaty. But, midway through the album, there is a gradual shift, and the latter songs reflect the elegance and craftsmanship we've come to love from James (comparisons are inevitable). Though you don't have the hooks, choruses and melodies that will move an arena in unison, you do have some soaring and beautiful music. "Bless 'em All" is simply glorious, and builds to a crescendo that will have me singing out loud as I run through the woods. If you like "The Shining" from "Pleased to Meet You," then you will like this album, especially the latter half. If you really like the uptempo, driving pop of "The Night Before," then you may find this album somewhat slow and sparce. Ultimately, I love the obvious care and intensity with which Tim imbues the songs. Maybe not good for dancing and bouncing around with a crowd at a concert, but wonderful for personal time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Life - I do 29 April 2011
Format:Audio CD
Several years after the critically acclaimed Bone & the reformed James, Tim Booth returns with his 3rd solo album Love Life. Although Lee Muddy Baker co-writes much of it & plays virtually all instruments & Tim claims it is a collaboration, the album still has Tim's name on it.
I'm not going to review each track individually other than to say that since I bought this album 3 weeks ago I must have played it 50 times. Not once have I skipped or re-played a track. I have played it from start to finish each time & I still can't find a weak track or one that I prefer over the others.
In short this album is a masterpiece. Buy it, play it over and over and like me learn to "Love Life".

5.0 out of 5 stars Tim booth best solo album yet 1 May 2011
Format:Audio CD
I am a massive James fan and I loved his 2004 album bone and seen him perform it live in Manchester. When James reformed I thought his solo career was now over, but Tim promise us it wasn't. James Hey ma album was amazing but there two mini albums released in 2010 weren't there best, I then wondered if they were in decline! When I got Lovelife Cd it took a few Listens to get used to it, but I then went to club academy in Manchester and seen Tim and his crew do an amazing live set and seeng the songs performed live allows you to understand the emotions behind each song better. Highlights for me are All about time, bless them all and consequences. A very good solo/ colaberation indeed, thanks guy!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent music... 28 April 2011
Format:MP3 Download
This is a great CD (or MP3 or whatever) - excellent tracks with a wide range of styles. Interesting lyrics which resonate with modern life, ... not many songs with lyrics about - mortgage redemption! Some great songs and some catchy tunes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tim is the man 13 Nov 2011
Format:MP3 Download
Having been a fan of James for over 20 years and seen them live a number of times I was needing some new material after a 7 year break. Well the lads turn out 2 new albums a couple of tours and then tim does his own stuff. It is just like a typical James album, a number of classic tracks and a couple of iffy ones that grow on you. If you like James this is a winner and why won't the Brits award ever recognise this quality singer (or band) and tim you are still the best dancer in the world, get on strictly mate!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb 14 May 2011
Format:MP3 Download
Tim booth is genius, his solo material whether with the bad angel or on his own stands up well to anything the mighty James have done, there is simply no filler on this album, quality tunes from a quality artist. Personal favourites are "monsters" & "buried alive".You will not be disappointed with Love Life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Booth returns with another masterpiece 20 April 2011
Format:Audio CD
I'll admit I'm a big fan of Tim Booth and James, so was expecting to like the album from the outset. However, it far exceeded my expectations and even on the first listening had me foot tapping and singing along from the opening bars of As Far as I Can See to the closing Gloria Decends. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart and Soul 19 April 2011
By SfromL
Format:Audio CD
What an interesting position the James front man, actor, dancer, dolphin liker and all round good egg Tim Booth finds himself in 2011 with the release of his new album `Love Life'. It's a release that Tim himself stated he's put his neck on the line for. He's released the album independently from the shackles and restraints of a major label release, with no financial backing except his own battered wallet and the trust and faith in those that have followed him along from the early days of James as well as an ever growing fan base that truly reaches the furthest regions of the globe.

Love Life is a different beast to his previous semi-solo release `Bone' back in 2004, it doesn't have the same kind of edginess and darkness that Bone has and instead the listener is presented with a loose sounding collection of (pop) songs steeped in character and story telling. Pick of the bunch for me at least is `Buried Alive' with its choppy sounding string arrangements puncturing the song throughout and a soaring chorus that Tim crafts so well.

Tim certainly has a voice that's matured nicely over the years; it appears to have developed a slight cragginess interwoven between the syllables that he carries so very well. Lee Baker has once again done a sterling job producing the album as well as playing the majority of the instruments; his CV should hopefully catch the eye of other like minded musicians who are looking for a producer who coaxes the best out of those he works with.
