Book Description

‘Laugh-out-loud funny, this book is exceptionally good.’ Chick Lit Club

Love, Lies and Lemon Cake is a hilarious, bittersweet comedy about taking your life back before it’s too late.

Faye Dobson has lost her sparkle. Living on film star fantasies and vague memories of a marriage that once was, she can’t help feeling that life is passing her by. She dreams of being whisked to Paris for dinner, making three wishes at the Trevi fountain and having sex under the stars. But the wrinkles are multiplying, her husband’s passion is for plumbing, and the nearest she’ll get to Rome is a take-away pizza.

So when Faye meets Dan the gorgeous Australian surfer guy working in the local deli she can’t help but wonder what it would be like to see the world. He is blonde, tanned, ten years younger and bakes the most amazing lemon cake. Unlike her husband Dan actually listens to Faye, his smile makes her feel fizzy inside, and when he smiles... Oh. My. God.

But is Faye being silly? What would Dan see in someone like her? Even if he did have feelings for her, could she give up everything to be with him?

What people are saying about Sue Watson…

‘a talented chick lit author with fresh and unique voice and going on my list of all time faves. This Chick Reads

Laugh-out-loud funny, this book is exceptionally good. You will be introduced to the world of 'vajazzles' and friendships we all wish we had! There is one particular chapter which will likely see tears of laughter streaming down your face. Love, Lies and Lemon Cake is truly a delightful read’ Chick Lit Club

I absolutely loved this book… Sue's witty, hilarious writing style had me hooked from page one, and I adored the cute and clumsy Faye, who is given the choice of living a life she has dreamed of. Sue Watson is a brilliant writer, a wonderful new talent with a fantastic style and lovable characters. I devoured this book in one sitting, and I'm already waiting for Sue's next offering!’ 5/5 Chick Lit Uncovered

‘Love, Lies and Lemon Cake is a deliciously hilarious book that will have you laughing out loud and rooting for the new Faye! From vajazzled lady parts to fake bake, orange self-tanners, Sue Watson’s humor is brilliant and spot on! This is the perfect book for summer! Don’t walk, but run out and get this book. You will be glad that you did!’ Book Mama blog

‘Now that I’ve read all of Sue Watson’s books I can say this has to be her best yet. Even though I really enjoyed her two previous ones, there’s something about ‘Love, Lies and Lemon Cake’ that screams with honesty, warmth pouring out of its pages... a wonderful, original story full of heart.’ 5/5 This Chick Reads

'Sue’s writing is witty and heartfelt in just the right amounts.' One More Page

‘Sue has an absolutely amazing way of making you feel the emotions of her characters, and making you step into their shoes.’ Kim the Bookworm

'The book is a magnificent read about never letting go of your dreams, and never being too old to follow them. It has humor in all the right places and the characters all have their individual quirks to keep the reader interested. I was hooked from page 1 of the book and found myself whizzing through the pages to find out what would happen between Faye and Dan and whether she would get to that New York rooftop. More About the Author

Sue Watson was a TV Producer with the BBC who combined motherhood and family life with a busy career. However, one day it dawned on Sue that Cosmo magazine may have been telling porkies about 'having it all,' and her life had become a slightly crazed juggling act.

So after much soul searching (and comfort eating) Sue abandoned her TV career, bought a pink laptop and wrote 'Fat Girls and Fairy Cakes.' It was then Sue realised she couldn't stop writing and produced 'Younger, Thinner, Blonder' 'Love, Lies and Lemon Cake' and 'Snow Angels, Secrets and Christmas Cake,' which was released October 2014.

Originally from Manchester, Sue now lives with her husband and teenage daughter in Worcestershire where she bakes (and eats) lots of cake. She spends much of her time making big decisions about whether to have Caramel Chew Chew or Peanut Butter ice cream (or both?) while watching 'The Biggest Loser USA,' and procrastinating over her latest novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favourite reads of the year so far. 26 Jun. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I absolutely loved this book. I noticed when I was three chapters in that I was sitting with a big grin on my face. There are loads of laugh out loud moments, loads of moments which I could completely identify with and some special moments where I sat with tears streaming down my face. It stirred up many emotions for me.

Faye was adorable. I loved her character. In fact, I thought I was her at some points of the book. And Dan! Well - if I ever meet him! The book really gave no clues as to how it was going to end, but I was very happy with the way it went.

A truly, truly wonderful read that I completely lost myself in. Delicious!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE funniest book I've read in a while 11 July 2014
By Best Crime Books TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
I read Sue’s last book Fat Girls and Fairy Cakes and made an instant decision when finished. Not only was I going to recommend it, I was absolutely convinced that if Sue Watson met me she would become my BFF! As it turned out we have since struck up an online friendship and she is one of the funniest women I have met recently. Her personality and humour shone through in a major way with her writing and had me laughing out loud. When I realised she had a new book out, I decided it would be a good time to get started.

With a rather lug cuppa and a few Jaffa Cakes I started to read. I need to point out that my week wasn’t going so well and at this particular point I felt like I could cry. Nothing was going right and murdering my husband had crossed my mind more than once! I figured that reading could let me escape for a few hours. What I hadn’t planned on was this book literally turning my rubbish mood into a great one. Faye Dobson, the lead character, opens the book describing a rather saucy scene involving a sun lounger in the sun washed hills of LA and a rather suave looking Ryan Gosling attending to her every need, before being rudely interrupted by her husband Craig. I knew without a doubt that this book was the perfect tonic. Faye was a brilliant character, and instantly I loved her. Her life has become somewhat mundane what with her eldest daughter Emma now living away from home and her life that remains involves looking after her husband and working.

Some of the scenes and one liner’s that emerged from just the first few chapters had me belly laughing. Sue has a wonderful knack of telling it just how it is. Faye’s dreams have along the way got lost with her day to day chores and responsibilities.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love, Lies and Lemon Cake 14 Aug. 2014
By Damaskcat HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition
Faye is in her forties and married to a plumber - the taciturn Craig. She is starting to think her whole life has been a mistake - apart from their beautiful, and now grown up daughter, Emma. Faye still likes her job at the hair and beauty salon where has has worked for many years but keeps wondering whether this is all there is to her life. Then she meets Dan at the deli where she starts buying he lunch time sandwich. Is this the wake up call she needs?

Funny, poignant and full of likeable and less than perfect people this is an entertaining light read which doesn't feature a twenty something beauty. Faye is all too human and she needs to feel she has achieved at least some of the things on her life list. How she goes about doing this makes for amusing reading. I did enjoy it though Faye's habit of opening her mouth and putting her foot in it most of the time did start to pall after a while and it was the reason why I don't feel I can give the book five stars.

But that is my only criticism of the book - and it may not irritate everyone. I liked the way the author mixed light hearted stuff with the more serious things in life. It was just the right mixture of laughter and tears and fitted my mood perfectly. I shall be watching out for other books by the author. I received a free copy of the book for review purposes from NetGalley.

A big thank you to the lovely Bookouture for providing me with a review copy via NetGalley.

I don’t think there was a thing about this book I didn’t love, so I’m going to have to be careful not to ramble on for this review. (Forgive me in advance if I do!)

Firstly, look at that cover. The second I saw it on NetGalley, I hit that request button as fast as physically possible, then crossed my fingers till it showed its pretty self on my shelf, beckoning to be read. It is just lovely.

My Stepmum happened to be reading this before I managed to get it, and her words were that it was ‘the first time I’ve laughed out loud at a book since the last Shopaholic.’ Now, her and I have been sharing books for a long, long time.
