4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great 13 May 2009
By shaz
I love to knit socks!!!!! This book is really good but the only thing stopping me giving it 5 * is that some of the items are a little strange, I like wierd & wonderful items to wear but even I wouldn't find a use for some of these, still good though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some very funky sock patterns in here 1 Sep 2010
By Tori7
As a beginner, I have yet to attempt any of these patterns myself. However, I can't wait to have a crack at a lot of them. What I will say about this book is that while there are many lovely patterns, the ones that aren't pretty are just plain weird, the kind of things you would never need or want for anything. However, the pretty patterns outweigh the not so pretty ones by a great deal. Therefore, I would recommend this book, but do bear in mind that I'm only a beginner and, as I say, haven't tried any of the patterns yet.

3.0 out of 5 stars good ideas, lots of mistakes! 26 Jan 2010
By CherryB
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
On the surface I like this book, there's some really interesting and unusual things to try in here. My biggest criticism is that there are quite a few typos/mistakes in the text and also, (I've found to my annoyance in the last few days) in the patterns themselves. I've gone to the bother of tracking down yarn to start on the wellie socks only to find that the stitches in the pattern do not add up, so be aware that if you're going wrong, it's more likely to be the pattern than you! Am having to recalculate and redesign a few of the patterns and I don't really have time for this. Disappointing...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on socks 7 April 2008
By D. Tzoutzouraki - Published on Amazon.com
When I ordered this book (after seeing the socks on the cover) I didn't expect to like so many of the 35 creative and new designs for socks. It's one of the best new book on socks I've seen in a long time. It has designs for short and long lace socks, dressy socks even socks for children and babies etc. I especially liked the flower socks, the japanese tabi socks, turkish socks, winter flower socks, stirrup legwarmers, tennis socks, gardening long socks, argyle golf socks, spotty slippers, tv slippers and especially the cherry slippers. There is even a simple Christmas stocking. Yarns are rowan , debbie bliss, jaeger, regia, patons, jamieson's etc.

2.0 out of 5 stars NO INFO ON YARN SUBBING 15 Jan 2009
By Justin B - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The sock patterns in this book are great, but beware:

The author does not include ANY information about the yarn used in each pattern other than the name, and how many skeins. That's right, no weight, no yardage, no gauge, NOTHING.

Be ready to do some research on your own to be able to substitute yarn.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very interesting 22 Feb 2009
By C. Peterson - Published on Amazon.com
I actually found the patterns in this book rather blah. Although I knit socks for women aged 13 - 57, there are only two patterns I would consider.
No yarn weights are indicated, so to substitute one would have to look up the yarn online or at a store. Yardage is given, but in the back of the book under yarn information.
All in all, one could do much better.

3.0 out of 5 stars sock books I don't love.. 7 July 2008
By Nisha Martin - Published on Amazon.com
This book is interesting. For someone in their teens or twenties, it would probably be very good. For me, I passed it on to someone in their 20s. The colorwork socks were beautiful, but I hate doing colorwork. Many of the other socks were just a little funkier than I'd want to make.
Not a bad book, just one I don't particularly love for myself. The person I gave it to, enjoyed it.
