About the Author

Dan Greenburg’s seventy-three books have been translated into twenty-four languages and include Fear Itself and the two previous bestsellers in the Max Segal series, Love Kills and Exes. Dan has written many humor books, including How to Be a Jewish Mother and How to Make Yourself Miserable, as well as several movies, TV shows, Broadway shows, and he’s also been a stand-up comedian and a tiger tamer, among other things. To research Fear Itself, Dan spent two years with NYPD homicide cops, going to crime scenes and autopsies to check out corpses, accompanying detectives on high-speed car chases and door-busting arrests. Dan also spent several weeks doing research in maximum security prisons, interviewing convicted murderers in their cells.

The first book from the Max Segal series introduces the Segal character and has a believable storyline - even if every attractive woman in NYC seems to undress with their curtains open! There is some exploration of the psychology of the killer, and the police investigation rings true. However, while it is a good read, I do prefer more in depth analysis of the killer and their motives etc

An easy to read, edge of your seat thriller. It gets your heart racing and you find yourself caring about the two lead characters. Will not give the plot away. You must read it yourself and see. Highly recommend this book. Off now to download book 2.

There's not many books I don't like but sadly this is one of them. The relationship that develops between Max and Babette just wasn't believable, moved too quickly and didn't go into enough depth. The ending was a complete anti-climax and I was left thinking 'is that it'. The whole build up of Babette sending Max images was almost pointless. I won't be buying anything else from this author.

I thought I would try Love Kills as it is featured in the Monthly Deals and I had never heard of the author. It's not for me. I suspect that if I had read the book in 1978 when it was first published I would have enjoyed it but 37 years later it seems very dated. The plot is now a standard of crime fiction - stalker loner fixates on attractive women and kills them when they turn down his advances - and seems trite in comparison. In fact I feel that the whole novel lacked depth as Mr Greenberg seems to prefer a slick writing style over substance and you don't really get to know the characters. Also, I didn't realise I was so politically correct but the casual racism, sexism and bigotry grated.

Good story keeps the reader interested. Had a couple of things I question the correctness of but overall definitely deserving of the 4 stars. The book has a climatic final chapter. I would have liked more of a profile on the killer such as what drove him to act the way he does but will still be reading the next book in the series.
