X LOVE IN ITSELF The second single from "Construction time again" is less catchy and enjoyable than "Everything counts", but almost as brilliant. The crystal clear trumpets create a striking effect, and the band clearly shows some new maturity. Of all the different mixes, only the last one proves to be REALLY different, as it is a slow, jazzy and moody rendition of the song. The B-Side "Fools" is Alan Wilder's best track (well, you can't say that his other compositions for DM are memorable...), a quiet whispered song well handled by Gahan.

The Talented Songwriting and Keyboarding of DM

"Love In Itself", an excellent tune in itself, features some horn and guitar sampling - DM's first commercial foray into acoustic instrumentation. "Love In Itself 4" may be played to a cheap drum-machine beat that sounds like it came off of a church organ, but the piano and vocal demonstrate how truly talented the Depeche Musicians are.
And speaking of truly talented Depeche Musicians - "Fools" is written by Alan Wilder, who I believe contributed around seven or eight compositions as a member of Mode. Although Martin is undoubtedly the most underrated songwriter of our time, Alan is a close second. This is one of the few DM tunes with a true keyboard solo - and it is excellent.

I have been looking for the Louge version of 'Love In Itself' by Depeche Mode since '96! I remembered I had it on a mix tape from a friend of a friend in high school! Loved it then, love it now!

I got this for the B-side "Fools". I only get the singles if the B-sides have lyrics. I recommend this for all Depeche fans.
