Set in 1775 this is a tale of cold revenge and redeeming love. As in The Rose at Midnight there are two couples who are destined to find love. The Earl of Killoran, an Irish peer and Emma, daughter of a deceased foundry owner meet when she murders her uncle at a posting inn. Great start which gets even better. Killoran finds a place for her in a diabolical plan of revenge. At the same time he has agreed to give a distant relative, Nathanial, some 'town bronze' whilst ignoring Lady Barbara a 'fallen woman' who wants him in her bed. Killoran is your quintessential rake; he has no heart, no soul and is bored with society. How these disparate people find love is beautifully told. Much is dark; Killoran shows Emma little mercy as he uses her to destroy his enemy. His heart and soul start to awaken but he fights it all the way as does Babs, when Nathanial woos her with pure, understanding love To write more would reveal too much. Surfice it to write that 'To Love a Dark Lord' has been a most emotionally satisfying novel I've read in some time. The writing superb, wonderful characters, even the villains. The depth of understanding the author shows in the writing is immense, adding to the tension. I would recommend this and 'The Rose at Midnight' to any reader who likes their heros dark. Brilliant.

As I've said in other reviews Anne Stuart is an automatic buy for me. Her books are rather samey if you read them back to back but hold off for a while and I find they really keep me interested and there's always such a dark side to them. I am not sure if these are re-published books but even if they are they were very good.

First book of Me Stuart's I've read and it won't be the last! A wonderfully Gothic tale of a reformed rake who starts out story without a single redeeming feature but by the end, through the love if a wonderful young lady,is completely redeemed. And my goodness me what a delicious hero Killoran is !
