Biography

The Human League
Credo
Biography 2011

The Human League are so credible it’s incredible. In fact, they’re probably more highly regarded in 2011 than they were in 1981 when they released their landmark album Dare!

They’re used to everyone from Madonna to Moby, Pet Shop Boys to Robbie Williams, citing them as an influence. Now the dubstep generation – ... Read more in Amazon's Human League Store

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the first cd's you should own ! 3 April 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This music is the work of Martin Rushent who remixed the Human League back in the 80's. If you have surround sound and you want to give a demo this is the mother of all samples. I first encountered the music back in 1981 and I feel it was way ahead of its time. Great value. Just buy it. Trust me. This was the very first CD I bought and my favourite track is Love Action. Stereo sound at its best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Electro Pop Addition 3 Feb 2006
By R. Kent
Format:Audio CD
Love and Dancing - The Unlimited Orchestra is possibly producer Martin Rushent's finest hour. The unmistakable backdrop of some of The Human League's finest tracks stripped, mixed and whipped by bounding analogue synth beats and cutting saw waves topped with piercing and addictive synth strings.

Despite it's analogue master and mix, this CD is beautifully hiss free and brings with it a huge dynamic range needing a half decent Hi-Fi to get the best from it. A beautifully mastered disc that puts many modern all-digitally mastered CD's to shame.

Fans of 80's Electro or Synth *have* to have this disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love and Dancing 30 Mar 2004
Format:Audio CD
This was ahead of its time in the 80's when it was first released on vinyl, and has stood the test of time. The stereo effects are stunning, and the album gives your sound system a real workout. 10/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars The finest electronic album ever? 4 Feb 2003
By B. Lawes VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Forget everything you think you know about The Human League. Forget the songs. Forget the cheesy hair styles. Forget the heavy eye make-up. Buy this album, and hear just how good 'eighties music could be. The 'orchestration' of some of the pieces of music are quite sublime, and makes you realise that more musical craftsmanship was present on synth-pop than anyone gave credit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unmissable synth-pop! 19 Feb 2009
By Max Rebo TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
The first time I heard this album was in a University lecture for Popular Music Studies. Our lecturer played the remix of 'Don't You Want Me', and I suddenly realised this was a song I played non-stop as a kid! So why did it take so long find?

Naturally, I went straight onto Amazon and ordered the album, only to find a whole host of other remixes superbly crafted from their originals. I suddenly realised why my lecturer drummed into us that when it comes to remixes, this album is a text-book album of how they should be done!

The track composition represents in a consolidated sense the way the energy moves on a club night. The more progressive numbers make up the first half the album, while the latter half is made up of the energetic, feel-good 'Seconds', 'Open Your Heart', and 'The Sound of the Crowd'.

Where the logic comes into the remixing is by keeping the songs important elements, yet arranging them differently. And 'Dont You Want' is the finest example of a remix around. Contrary to what another reviewer has suggested though, the tempo hasn't been raised. Yes - it is faster than the original, but this remix has remained the same tempo since I can first recall listening to it.

I see this as now quite an unmissable album. It's simplicity and energy is of it's time, but the craftmanship to make remixes like this is missed severely. Top marks!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Other Essential Human League Album 31 Oct 2008
Format:Audio CD
The term 'classic' is horribly overused in music these days, but in 1981 the Human League released the 'classic' electropop album 'Dare'. They were the coolest band in 1981 turning out singles like 'Sound of The Crowd', 'Love Action', 'Open Your Heart' and of course 'Don't You Want Me'. All were included on 'Dare' and are also included here in remixed instrumental form. I'm so used to hearing the single version of 'Don't You Want Me' on the radio and TV that I had forgotten what a great song it is. This is brought home when you listen to it in it's instrumental version on this album . This album was released in 1982 as a stop gap between 'Dare' and the Leagues next ablum. However, it is so much more than a stop-gap album and is in my opinion equal in quality to 'Dare'.
It captures a band at the top of their form, form they never quite captured again despite numerous later hits. This album was my 'getting ready to go out' music and listening to it again today it exites me as much as it did back then.

4.0 out of 5 stars DanceVision 16 Mar 2006
Format:Audio CD
This album often gets overlooked.
Instrumental dance albums are now pretty commonplace .
Whilst listrening to this you become aware of just how visionary The Human League can be ,that alone makes this worth buying.
One of the first Dancemix albums released.
Great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars oh what a lovely noise 13 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I've never been a huge fan of the League but when I came across this album in the eighties I fell in love with it instantly. These remixes are all from the Dare period and are a priceless slice of stuff, in fact some of the best remixes i've ever heard -- some stuff here just sends shivers down my spine ----- anyone who is into electronic music of any description should give this a whirl, even if you were never the greatest league fan.
