I bought this book as I liked some of the projects in it, but have to say I would not recommend it for a beginner. I have only done three of the patterns so far but have found the book to be full of errors - mistakes in the numbers, instructions, measurements etc. If I didn't already know what I was doing and had followed the instructions I would have ended up in a mess.
Also the photos at the beginning section that show you how to crochet, need to be turned upside down to be of any use, as they are not taken from the point of view of the person crocheting, which is what you need.

Have so far attempted two projects from this book. And both pattern instructions have been incorrect with measurements way out. One project is supposed to have an actual measurement of 13" by 14" but in fact comes out at 8" by 9". This is NOT due to any tension errors on my part as if you look at the authors tension instructions you can see the project can't work. am extremely disappointed with this book having bought the recommended yarn at some expence only to find that unless i want a finished project suitable for a pixie i shall have to buy yet more wool. But also i would have to significantly ammend the pattern in all dimensions which defeats the object of buying the book in the first place.

Crochet is fashionable once more. This book has a good mix of 25 projects that will build your confidence in crochet. There is an excellent how-to section. I love the cobweb gloves and spiky scarf. Some of the projects still a little old-fashioned, but a good introduction to crochet. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's book review website.
