Product Description

The first book in the Number One Bestseling Science Fiction Series . This series is Space Opera at its finest. All seven books in the series have been number one bestsellers at Amazon's Science Fiction Series. The following review describes the series well:

This review is from: Annihilation: Love Conquers All
I was amazed at Saxon's beautiful re-creation of some of the best Golden Age SF. There just wasn't enough of it written. Modern authors usually don't or won’t get into the spirit of a good Space Opera. Saxon has real heroes (smart ones, great space battles, grand alien empires and bad guys you can love).
He has it all. The characters are pure types. They are also powerful. What really made this book great was the marvelous style. His pacing and scene cutting remind me of E.R. Burroughs. Sharp! Fast paced and quick, the battle scenes remind me of Drake. I am so grateful to read a book that is not dripping PC (sorry PC police!). A true blast from the past, I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. I only wish more authors had the ability and courage to write like this. E.E Smith would be proud.

A young boy born with unique psychic abilities.
An ancient alien artifact he accidently discovers.
Now Earth is targeted for total annihilation by 50,000 warships.

In this epic story, Saxon Andrew takes us into the future and the lives of human and nonhuman characters, some we can easily relate to, and others who are a bit different. Along with a hearty dose of battles and spaceships, this is a story that offers humor and a tale of enduring love against the backdrop of galactic war on a grand scale. The following is an excerpt from the book:

Admiral Dorg sat in his command chair on board the Alliance Flagship War Weapon and watched as his fleet was destroying the humans’ ships. He heard his bridge crew cheering but he couldn’t help thinking, “This is too easy. This fleet couldn’t have defeated our ships at the Human Colony World.”

Then he said, “Communications, put a picture of one of those human ships that was just destroyed on my display.” A picture of a small ship suddenly appeared on his console. He looked at it for a minute and then pulled up a picture of the small human ship that had killed two heavy cruisers. He put it next to the ship that had just been destroyed; they looked nothing alike. His internal alarms went off at full blast; he stood and yelled, “Order the fleet back into formation!” His crew stopped cheering and looked at him like he was crazy. “Do it now; we’re being set up for a trap!” His crew hesitated, looking at each other for just a moment, and then started issuing orders, but that small hesitation proved fatal; the human fleet ripped into the Alliance ships like a tsunami.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Unadulterated Space Opera? 22 Feb 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you want spaceships battling amongst the stars doing impossible things. If you want a hero of the old fashioned sort, a heroine of the modern sort and monsters from beyond Earth's atmosphere. If you want a really enjoyable read that doesn't cause you to start re-evaluating everything all at once.

This is book for you.

It has vague ideas first seen in EE Doc Smith's classic Lensman and Skylark series. Bigger is better! Bigger, faster, more weapons, more damage. "Bus-bars as thick as your leg" kind of stuff.

Beside classic space opera storyline, there is monstrous emotional content too. Heart achingly simple story elements that get you welling-up with tears.

If you like EE Doc Smith, Jack Williamson et-al, there's a new name in town (actually a bunch of people).

If you want a complicated, cerebral, high science novel, look elsewhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hmm, sort of OK (finished it anyway) 18 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well, of the vast quantity of mediocre kindle stuff this is an OK example. Won't bother with the later books in the series though, life's too short.

The good: OK heroes, speed of plot development/ pace of events pretty quick all along, narrative readable, nice details here and there.

The bad: Shallow characters, instant mega-solutions, prose as shallow as the characters, thin/ inconsistent back plot, significant events wrapped up with little detail or description. Galactic alliances whose thought processes, planning and logic wouldn't suit an 8 year old. Lots of deus-ex machina resolutions... (eg. God like powers drop onto scene with no effort, integration or credible basis).

Not a wasted day but nothing very much gained on balance.

3.0 out of 5 stars On the borderline... 4 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I like sci-fi to have a pretty high level of scientific / technological credibility, and this book doesn't quite get there, although it does try to. But the narrative flies along at a good pace, and I didn't find too many jarring text errors (maybe the author has uploaded a partially corrected version since the previous reviews were written).

I can best describe this as "feel-good sci-fi" which is a pretty strange blend of genres, but it just about works. Don't expect any characters to exhibit any signs of deviousness, darkness, hidden agendas etc. Everyone turns out to be Jolly Nice Chaps / Girls in the end even if they didn't appear so at first impression. Even the bad guys are not really bad deep down, just misguided.

Overall I'd say a fun read, not demanding, slightly overpriced ... but just about good enough that I went ahead and bought book 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like the Curates egg ...... 10 April 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
.... its good in parts. Good narrative, an invulnerable superhero, stilted conversation, battles that never go wrong with amazing weapons and ships, tremendous action and infuriating format errors ( scenes should not change at the end of a paragraph without some indication ) but I liked it. Lets hope the rest of the trilogy is as good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Another one aimed at the younger reader? 6 Jun 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed but it was rather light and fluffy. Not a lot of depth or development. Will not buy the next in series but do recommend for a younger person who is just starting in the world of Science Fiction
