Adem Ilhans debut album,homesongs,was so perfect that there were never enough superlatives to throw at it. This poses a huge problem on how do you follow something like that without a host of comparisions coming to the fore. This is how....go one better! Use the same ingredients as previously(warm vocals & stripped down folk with a new twist,i.e.blending glockenspiels,bells & recorders to create a mind blowing sound)& once again you have an album that can deal with loneliness,happiness & every otheremotion possible with the same graceful ease! Now most artists that try this fail on all points - They fall into the trap of soppy,self important lyrics & musical arrangements that sound clumbsy at best! Somehow, I dont know how he manages it, adem managesto avoid these traps with grace. Songs like sea of tranquility & the vastness of it all could be plagued with cliches but instead they pull at the heartstrings & make you want to throw away the rest of your cd collection for not measuring up! Buy this album & trust me, the only problemyou will have is choosing a desert island disc, this or homesongs, & I cant think of a greater compliment

I'm new to Adem; I know almost nothing of his other work. With no 'context', I heard this at a friend's house... and it's had a special place in my heart since. I have no great insight to share with you, I just wanted to give it another 5 stars. Magical, like the Clangers!

Another slice of gentleness. This time Kieran Hebden's involvement is slightly less audible in the mix and the songs are more comtemplative; perhaps less accessible than those in Homesongs. After a few listens though, his extraordinary voice and warm lyrics remind you why you haven't taken Homesongs off the stereo in over two years. Brilliant.
