Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
If you want the two word review, it's right there in the title: Louder Now, the third album from New York's Taking Back Sunday, is heavier, ballsier and all round bigger than its predecessors, like the soggy-hanky emo of 2004's Where You Want To Be took some lessons from Charles Atlas and came back to kick sand in everyone's face. In part, this is down to the visceral production of Eric Valentine, last seen working the desk for Queens Of The Stone Age. But the band have hardened up, too: 'Liar (It Takes One To Know One' builds from a tricksy, ska-tinged verse to a seismic chorus, frontman Adam Lazzara and guitarist Fred Mascherino sparring manfully atop a roar of rock guitars, while 'Make Damn Sure' is perhaps the album's stand-out, a canyon-sized chorus that renders emo passion with stadium scope. The irony here, perhaps, is that in toughening up their sound, Taking Back Sunday have actually made a more straightforward "rock" record than anything came before. Later in the album, though, there's a few moments where TBS ease off the gas, with interesting results: see 'Divine Intervention', a spare, introspective acoustic track with distant percussion and subtle, strange tape effects. Meanwhile, a limited reissue adds a 90 minute DVD and four live tracks. –-Louis Pattison

5.0 out of 5 stars Taking Back Sunday Step it up again, 2 May 2006

This review is from: Louder Now (Audio CD)
I was a fan of their previous albums but i always felt that they could be better. With this ecord they prove it, this is quite possibly the best album i own in all the hundreds of CDs i own. It still keeps tyhe awesome two-man singing bouncing about to give it something else and extra energy, but has greater delivery ad greater music to back it up than on WYWTB.

What's It Feel Like To Be A Ghost - Excellent opener, featuring an incredibly catchy but simple riff throughout, all the hallmarks of a single - 10/10

Liar (It Takes One To Know One) - This has a darker feel than any other previous TBS material, and race along - 10/10

MakeDamnSure - This at first listen appeared a weak link but now i no longer feel that in any way shaope or form - 10/10

Up Against (Blackout) - Another very good song - 9/10

My Blue Heaven - Slightly softer song whilst not slow by any stretch of the imagination - 8/10

Twenty Twenty Surgery - this is also slightly slower than the first four songs, but impossible not to sing along to the chorus - 8/10

Spin - I think this is my personal fave, an absolute gem, fast and furious as the album gets - 10/10

Divine Intervention - This is the customary slow song every album in the world seems to insist on, but it is well done, despite being the weakest song on the album - 7/10

Miami - Like makedamnsure, this didnt instantly appeal but he more i listen the more i like, very last summer by lostprophets vibe to it, but more energetic - 9/10

Error: Operator - Shortest and snappiest song on the album and very very good - 10/10

I'll Let You Live - Slower song but powerful lyrical delivery throughout, excellent finish to album of the year (we'll have to see what MUSE can do) - 9/10

You must buy this album to avoid missing out on a masterpiece

5.0 out of 5 stars "Louder Now" indeed louder!, 29 Jan 2007
This review is from: Louder Now (Audio CD)
I bought this record the day it came out and i can honestly say i have pretty much listened to it everyday since (nearly a year now). It has very catchy hooks and you wont ever get sick of it! This is a big step up from their previous records, being lyrically and musically more mature. Key tracks i think are; "Whats it feel like to be a ghost", "Makedamnsure", "Miami", "Spin", "Error:Operator". Listen to these tracks first or download them if u want a taster, you wont be disapointed im sure!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars First impressions = v good, 27 April 2006

After having released two awesome albums TBS's third release had a lot to live up to. "Tell All Your Friends" was full of raw emotion and introduced TBS's trademark amazing dual vocals. "Where You Want to Be" saw TBS capitalise on their ability to write catchy yet emotional songs that would keep you singing whilst learning about "The inner workings of the heart" in biology (or was that just me last week...)

Personally I have only listened to this album fully a couple of times since it got delivered yesterday evening. My first impressions of the new material didnt blow me away but that doesnt always happen with great albums eg Thrice's "Vheissu". But i can definately see the foundations of a classic TBS album, so don't let my four star score put you off.

I recommend this for people who want something a bit more 'mature' and interesting in the way of "emo" which is pretty hard to come by at the moment with all the copycat bands littering the scene (senses fail, my chemical romance). If you like this album i would also recommend all of Thursday's material who next to TBS are one of my favourite bands.

Hope this was useful...
