I was really rather disappointed with this book.
I was looking for something that would give help and advice about restoration of all the 'tricky bits' on my car but instead the book talks only in very general terms about buying a car, creating plans and budgets etc.
As an example, in discussing restoration of the body it says something along the lines of 'if the gel coat is damaged and needs repair you could do it yourself or you could get it done by a professional...' there is no real practical explination or assistance.
In general when the going gets tough the author seems to recommend you look at one of the (many) books listed in the bibliography rather than going into details himself.
In the end a rather expensive way to get a list of other books that actually might contain useful information.

This guide will not get you through a complete restoration but is a useful adjunct when used in association with the other publications such as Brian Buckland's guide and the Lotus Workshop manual. It has useful photos and most importantly is very encouraging for someone beginning an ambitious project such as a Lotus Elan rebuild. For the price it is well worth a read if you are contemplating such an undertaking.
There is a useful section on how to buy an Elan for restoration but I had already acquired mine prior to buying the book!

This book goes beyond the actual restoration of a Lotus Elan, but the history of the car, the different models and what to watch out for if you are looking to invest in an Elan. It has been written with an experienced hand and from someone who can pass on tips and tricks not found elsewhere.
I found it readable and enjoyable and able to relate to problems with advice I just could not of got from a workshop manual, advice that could only be given through experience.
I have also met Mr Lund at several car shows and he is very approachable and always keen to offer advice.
