Kastner is a writer who is famous all over the world. He is a winner of Andersen Literature Award. He is an author of many well known children books for instance Emil and detectives, Annaluisa and Anton, Flying classroom etc.
His books are always funny and kind. I like his style of writing. I mean when u are reading his books u really see that it takes special talent to be a children writer.
This is a story about twins who met in a summer camp when they were 9 y.o. One girl lives with her dad (famous compositor) in Vein, capital of music, but the other knows only quiet country life with loving mother. They decided to change with their lives to know both of their parents. But suddenly girls find out that their dad is going to marriage.
Disney Studio used this book to make a film "Parents trap", but film is a little diffrent.

4.0 out of 5 stars A kids' view of family life 27 Sep 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Having twins of 9 years and bringing them up in two different households I wanted to re-familiarise myself with the story that made me cry as a kid myself. Of course, the happy ending was too sugary for my taste as my life did not pan out that way!
Still, very good read - a classical Kästner book!
Definitely to recommend.

This story is set in the post-war alps and is about two young girls who meet on summer camp, and are amazed to find they are long-lost twin sisters. They swap places and trick their parents with thrilling and funny results. What makes this story stand out is the way the author develops the characters of the children and the adults around them - even the pet dog - in such memorable and enticing ways. This author really understands what makes children tick, what moments they remember most and what things really matter to them in their relationships with their parents. He also understands the dynamic of groups of girls, how they fall out and make up again. It's quite sentimental, not grand literature perhaps but a terrific read and I highly recommend it.
