This solo album from Simple Minds frontman Jim Kerr is without doubt better than 90% of the dross out
there. Superb songs and production, make this stand out, with each track revealing hidden depth, with
repeated plays. No point naming standout tracks,as the whole album is incredibly strong, with sublime
melodies, and Jim's distinctive vocal's. The lyric's are back to his best, with cryptic, hidden meanings
similar to early Minds.

I would never have thought he would do a solo album as good as this, and he seems to be flowing with ideas
at the moment. Sadly apart from Simple Minds fans, the album will probably be ignored, but he should take pride
in the fact, that the people who do buy it, will be musically educated, and in years to come, will be
looked upon as being a minor classic. Thanks Jim for one of the year's best suprises.

Dare I say that it could be better than Graffiti Soul? But then it might be unfair to compare it to the last Simple Minds album as this is Jim Kerr going solo with Jez Coad on guitar and producing.
On some of the tracks the sound is reminiscient of early Simple Minds (Think, Sister Feelings Call).
Overrall, the album is full of energy: Mel Gaynor beating out the drum sounds, atmospheric guitars with a nostalgic 80s sound and soaring synths.
The most accessible tracks are the single: "Shadowland" and the free download on the Lostboy website: "Refugee" but with repeated listening you can start to appreciate the other tracks.
Definitely something for Simple Minds fans and anyone who enjoys a blend of classic 80s with the contemporary.

I have been a fan of simple minds for years, they are one of the few bands I always return to. I fell out of them in the late 90,s but came back to them with black and white. I was so pleased when Jim kerr brought this album out and to say I was suprised by how strong it is would be an underestimation. Nail through my heart and shadowlands are classics and I love driving to this album and would recommend it to all Simple Minds fans.

The first solo project of the Simple Minds frontman Jim Kerr is a very good surprise for me, even if I knew it wouldn't be a bad one.
Every track is very good, and many are possible hits, like "Remember Asia", "The Wait", etc...
This album is excellent, brilliant, and it confirms that Jim Kerr is in a very good mood for the moment, following the excellent SM album "Graffiti Soul".
Great job, Jim!

It must be difficult to go for a solo album when you are in a band that has been so successful and even harder if that success has been over many years as it has for Simple Minds - Well it has been worth the wait...Jim has given us a really strong album. There rightly is a lot of talk about Track 3 (Shadowland) and healthy debate over if Track 1 (Refugee) should have been the first single. Personally I particularly like Track 2 (She Fell In Love With Silence) and also Track 14 (Sad Stone Child), so go for the Version with the 3 Bonus Tracks! Whilst I have been a Simple Minds fan since '82, this is the first album in ages that you really get to hear Jim's Vocals and clarity on the Words...Hopefully the 'Techies' on the next Simple Minds Tour take note of this and don't let Charlie's Guitar and Mel's Drums despite how fantastic they are (plus the Bass/Keyboards) drown our Jim out!

Reading the sleeve notes, plus Jim's comments on the SM website, I had rather expected something a bit different musically to what we actually have here, which to these ears sounds an awful lot like recent Simple Minds. Now thats no bad thing if you like them, which I do, but I have to admit it was a slight disappointment nevertheless. Thats why I'm giving the album 4 stars.

On the plus side, its a good listen, with some great tunes & Jim crooning along in his particular style. Suffice to say, if you like Jim & Simple Minds, there's every chance you'll enjoy this.

Listened to this a few times solid, end to end.
A great album for any minds fan. It does have a 120bmp tempo on some tracks which is great, you can imagine the moves by Jim live. Bowie ness comes through too.
Sure Charlie ain't here but the strength of the lyrics and production more than makes up for it. You
have to take your hat off to Jim for making this, there are some sublime momments to go with the catchy riffs and choruses.
A good purchase, play it loud

Read a few postive reviews about jim first solo album plus being a simple minds fan,was not disapointed.
Jim is back to his youth, i can listen to all tracks. Shadowlands, the wait part 1+2, are just excelent, but also
all tracks are so strong. worth a puchase if your a simple minds fan. looking forward to his next album.
