5.0 out of 5 stars LOST TRACKS - Absolutely Wonderful 21 Oct 2010
By joanna
Format:Audio CD
I have loved Judy since I was 15 and have everything of her. If I am a professional singer it is because of her. I have all of her cd's, and films. As soon as I knew that the very VERY first recordings that Judy ever did had been discovered and printed I immediately searched, found, and bought without hesitation, despite having to be careful with money. Even my partner, who isn't mad on Judy, could'nt get over how she sounded at 12 years of age. Dinah is a masterpiece. It is such a pity that Judy did'nt carry on singing her tunes in this very "jazz" way of doing things. Her Mother is on piano and these tunes add up what American Culture is all about.
This cd is an absolute "must have" for Judy lovers and very nice for people who love fantastic quality music.
The price is more than honest too.
Thankyou to the people who "made it happen".
joanna.

5.0 out of 5 stars JUDY GARLAND - YOU MADE ME LOVE YOU !!! 3 Aug 2010
Format:Audio CD
From the word go this cd is beyond belief! This isn't just any singer, it's Judy Garland wearing her heart on her sleeve and singing like a nightingale. Many of the recordings are extremely rare, 'Bill' (Thanks Jute's For Singing This To Me - lol) & 'On The Good Ship Lollypop', and have been wonderfully restored.
The other 'Worlds Greatest Entertainer' AL JOLSON called her a Miracle Of Song.
Given that he loved himself so much (and rightly so) this was indeed praise from the Master
I have many favourites here but the one that really stands out for me personally is the wonderful 'Long Ago & Far Away'. This melody just melts my heart as it was recorded live on radio during world war two and you can really sense the emotion not just from Judy but from the audience too. The duets with Bing Crosby & Frank Sinatra are enchanting although I do have to tell you that the Sinatra duo has been released elsewhere with better sound.
I have recently encountered a few people who believe that Miss Garland had a limited singing range. Not so (checked it out)! Judy's voice lay somewhere between a Contralto (latterly) and an Alto which means that she sounded lower in pitch than the likes of contemporary singers like Lena Horne or Barbra Striesand who sang Soprano but her range wasn't less than theirs but just set at a slightly lower register - like Frida & Agnetha from ABBA. Judy's voice was high and lower at times but certainly no less compelling than any of her friends - Peggy Lee, Barbra Striesand, Ella Fitzgerald etc. When she got older her voice deepened and became richer, stronger, and more dynamic. Soprano's seem to be the in thing these days for sure but nobody could/can ever quite match the Garland touch, no matter the lenth of the note or the high C, because sometimes the song means more when it comes from the heart, warts and all. Judy didn't have the benefits of today's studio recording techniques but still manages to sound as good as anyone around today - and because her heart was in her voice and her love shone thru for her fans. That's why she is the best!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare Judy tracks 14 Oct 2010
By Pauline
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
The historical tracks e.g Bill and On The Good Ship Lollipop are a show piece for the raw talent which is there for everyone to hear.

Lots of radio and rare live performances. If you are a Judy fan, this is a must to add to your collection.

The 4 CD's have a combined total of 100 tracks, a bargain.
