Reviews

The first 12 episodes from the first season of the hugely popular drama series following a group of people who are lost on a faraway desert island after their plane crashes. Stripped of everything, the 48 survivors scavenge what they can from the plane for their survival. Some panic. Some pin their hopes on rescue. A few find inner-strength they never knew they had. Kate (Evangeline Lilly), with no medical training, suddenly finds herself suturing the doctor's wounds. Hurley (Jorge Garcia) - a man with a warm sense of humour despite the desperate situation - does his best to keep his cool as he helps those around him to survive. Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) is a faded rock star who harbours a painful secret. Sayid (Naveen Andrews) is a Middle Eastern man and former member of the Elite Republican Guard, who must wrestle with the racial profiling directed at him by some of his fellow survivors. Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) and Sun (Kim Yun-jin) are a Korean couple whose traditions, values and language are foreign and thus causes much to get lost in the translation. Sawyer (Josh Holloway) has an air of danger surrounding him, and his intense sense of mistrust for everyone around him could prove to be fatal to his fellow castaways. Michael (Harold Perrineau) has just gained custody of his nine-year-old son, Walt (Malcolm David Kelley), after the death of his ex-wife - they are a father and son who don't even know each other. Locke (Terry O'Quinn) is a mysterious man who keeps to himself, and who harbours a deeper connection to the island than any of the others. And self-centered Shannon (Maggie Grace) - who actually gives herself a pedicure amid the chaos - and her estranged controlling brother, Boone (Ian Somerhalder) - constantly bicker and must learn to get along if they are to survive. Episodes comprise: 'Pilot (Parts 1 & 2)', 'Tabula Rasa', 'Walkabout', 'White Rabbit', 'House Of The Rising Sun', 'The Moth', 'Confidence Man', 'Solitary', 'Raised By Another', 'All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues' and 'Whatever The Case May Be'.

If you're reading this, you'll probably know what the show is all about - if you don't, where have you been? In a black hole?
The general premise of the show is that 48 or so people (although a select few feature more heavily than others) become trapped on an as yet unknown island when their plane mysteriously runs into trouble and crashes. The survivors must band together if they want to survive long enough to be rescued, or at least to figure out where they are and what is going on. It is something like a cross between one of those (terrible) reality game shows and Lord of the Flies, although it is interesting and entertaining in it's own right as there is a story behind each of the characters, which I am led to believe is building up to something big. It's one of the best shows to appear on televison for a while, featuring superb acting and impressive visuals and a story that should keep you hungry for more.
To date, I am around 10 episodes in and enjoying it immensely, so much so that I was hoping to invest in the box set when released, to catch bits I didn't get the first time round and to see some of the extras that haven't make it to the final cut, to pad the story out more. When I heard that the UK set was being released in 2 parts, at a cost of 25 quid each (more in shops), I was far from happy. My friend recently ordered and received a region 1 set, which contains all 24 episodes plus a wealth of extra features for £30, and if you shop around you can probably get it for less.
5 stars for the show, nothing for this below-the-belt boxset. Do yourself a favour, if you want this, buy the region 1 version, and enjoy watching the show all the more thinking about the money you've saved.

Well no doubting the fact this was one of the television highlights of 2005.
I am lucky enough to have the complete Series one which I have recently finished.
However, do yourself a favour, save some money and buy the complete box set from America for the same price as the first half!
The second half of the season is stronger. We learn more about the characters, but be warned few questions are answered and more are created.
A very clever, interesting drama. Buy it now, but buy it in full!!

this is THE best tv drama ever brilliant but the dvd is a different
story. If you have access to a region 1 dvd player i strongly advise you get the american dvd it has twice as many episodes for the same price , if you dont i guess your stuck with this edition, the dvd is still great and any way if you never knew about the region 1 dvd I think you would be very pleased with this

Lost flew to the top of the ‘most-talked about new series’ as soon as it hit the airwaves and I have to admit that it deserves all the praise it gets. The story centers around the survivors of a plane crash and a good part of the season is directed at finding out who each character really is. You have your usual cast for life on an island: all round hero in the form of Jack the Doctor; the bad-boy comes in the form of Sawyer; and there are more characters with secrets than you can swing a stick at! Not to be outdone, even the island has a secret! What kind of tropical island has polar bears?!?
When an Air Marshall is found among the wreckage the story churns to find out who he was transporting and human nature and suspicion emerge to point the finger. There are clashes of personality, differences of opinion, secrets, lies, kidnappings and mysterious creatures. All you need for a gripping story-line!
I know some people dismissed Lost as too hard to keep up with because the story keeps switching back between life on the island and life before the crash but I find it works well. I enjoyed the secrecy and intrigue and found myself watching until the early hours because I just couldn’t wait to find out ‘what happened next’.
The ending was a brilliant cliff-hanger and I eagerly await the release of Season 2.

Lost is the most gripping t.v I've watched in a long time and had eagerly awaited the DVD, and like so many othrers was dissapointed with the English half version but I didnt have a region 1 player to buy it from america, but now the French complete box set is out, which is region 2 in both french and english language for 50euros which is about 34sterling.

Excelent buy! Instead of buying this from amazon.co.uk, I bought it from amazon.com via America. I think the price for the whole season works out as less than the price of part one over here. You will not be able to play it straight away on your dvd player unless it is a multi-region player as DVDs from USA will not work over here and vice vesa. There are websites though that you can use to get codes to unlock your DVD player so it plays diferent region DVDs. We used dvdhelp.com and just enter the make of your DVD player!
So about the product. Excellent. There are seven discs including one full of bonus features. A bargain at less than £30!
Enjoy
