Manufacturer's Description

One of Japan's biggest new action series of recent years is heating up - literally. As the ice caps melt the planet of E.D.N III turns from a frozen wasteland to a mix of jungle paradise and blistering desert. That only makes the world more dangerous though, with the continued threat of "snow" pirates and even bigger and more aggressive Akrid monsters.

Only teamwork can bring down creatures like Gordiant
The robotic Vital Suits are bigger and better than ever
Red Eye is one of the biggest monsters in the game
Lost Planet's action is no longer limited to icy wastes

Inspired by Halo and other Western action games this third person shooter also blends in the best of Japanese titles with role-playing style character customisation and some of the best giant robot suits in the business.

Brand new for this sequel is a four-player co-operative option that lets you play through the whole single player campaign with three allies (either human or computer controlled). With a greatly expanded competitive multiplayer as well this should reveal and exploit all of the potential of the original Lost Planet.

Key Features
  • Global warming: Return to E.D.N III as this all-action sequel expands on everything from the original with bigger monsters, more versatile robots and more varied backdrops.
  • Fantastic four: Never enter a battle alone, as you fight through the story campaign in online co-operative mode or with computer-controlled fighters.
  • Giant robo: Pilot VC (Vital Suit) robots that are as versatile as your own character, with transforming models and others that require multiple players to operate.
  • Lost makeover: Customise the look of your character and their abilities, with unique weapons and items suited to specific playing styles.
  • Environmental modelling: Stunning new graphics technology provides all new backdrops with their own specific dangers, from lush jungle to scorching desert and freezing tundra.
About the Developer: Capcom
One of the oldest and most respected Japanese publisher/developers, Capcom are very secretive about their internal studios. Their names are not made public, but they've been responsible for classics ranging from Street Fighter II to Resident Evil and Mega Man to Devil May Cry.

Fun:
This game is a lot like Avatar (the film) as in no-one went to see it for the well drawn characters, the interesting plot or the snappy dialogue... everyone went for the visual spectacle.
Lost Planet 2 has
-NO characters
-NO storyline
-NO emotional engagement of any sort

Having said that it does have
-A spectacular visual style. The cities are from Bladerunner. The deserts are from Dune and Tatooine. The jungles from Predator or Avatar.
-The biggest, coolest boss fights I have ever seen. A huge 80m by 20m rampaging lizard/alien... no problem.
-Huge amounts of ridiculously large weaponry (armored suits complete with homing lazers, gattling guns, mega shotguns etc)

The Windows Live thing is annoying. Took me over an hour from putting the disc in to actually being able to run it due to setting multiple accounts for Windows Live and ironing out bugs

At the price its at, its a bargain and worth getting for the sheer visual spectacle of the fights but Windows Live is annoying and unnecessary. Learn from COD4. People still play that online because it has very little intervention from industry people trying to cash in. If the price of this game rises above £10 then don't bother but until then its quite fun.

Lost Planet 2 20 Jan 2011
Fun:
Running on: Win7 x64 | 4GB RAM | AMD PHENOM 9750 QCORE 2.40Ghz | ATI RADEON HD 4800

Graphics / Visuals: 5/5
Sound / Music / Voice Acting: 4/5
Gameplay: 4/5

In the space of time it got from XBOX and PS3 to Windows LP2 was treated to some of the pickiest reviews I've ever seen. Despite having not played the first Lost Planet game at the time and the almost unanimous negative-to-average critical reaction, the stunning visuals prompted me to buy this game and I'm VERY pleased I did. The design, interface and other issues noted with console versions were (for me) non-existent. Bearing in mind that this is a *game* and not art, or a film posing as art, the premise should be fairly clear: pick up your gun and shoot at stuff - what Lost Planet 2 has in abundance is amazing looking aliens to shoot at, many of them are gigantic and worth buying a widescreen monitor and top-of-the-range graphics card for.

Highlights include: multiplayer co-op, numerous pilotable Vital Suits (mechs) and combat armour & the eye-popping cutscenes, action sequences and visuals. The story is a bit weird, but pay attention and there's interesting stuff going on (even if it isn't explained upfront). Some have complained that there's no emotional attachment or whatever but I think the game attends to matters on a larger scale, you play as 4 different factions throughout the 6 campaigns all with different goals but comes together brilliantly at the end.

Be warned though, the game will ask you to create a Games For Windows LIVE account and probably requires an internet connection to play. I purchased my copy via Steam so I'm unsure if you need that also.

Great looking game 22 April 2011
Fun:
I didn't expect much from this game apart from it being eye candy with not much backing. I suppose the characters and storyline are just awful but that is not what I was looking for in this game. It was for the co-op abilities and to take down huge monsters using teamwork. Sure it isn't needed but it is a lot more fun if you are playing with others. Also to those complaining about the Games for Windows, I have not seen a problem with it as of now but I already had an account set up before I entered the game. Definitely worth the low price I paid for it.
