Product Description

Synopsis

A humorous memoir about the author's experience of growing up with pop music: of hearing it, buying it, loving it, and attempting to play it in public for money. Along the way some of the great imponderables of pop are considered: who listens to Pink Floyd?; and can a CD replace a 12-inch record?

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the funniest books I've ever read, 20 Oct 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lost in Music (Hardcover)
I bought this book on a whim and couldn't put it down. It was like reliving my teen years - being a big music fan. This is almost like reading someone's diary, as Giles Smith talks about the events in his life and the music he was listening to at the time - a soundtrack, if you like.

The chapter on Nik Kershaw is priceless and I have often quoted it to people in conversation. I also liked the trials and tribulations of forming a band and trying to be successful. I have several friends who are in the music industry and I can definitely see them in the same situations Giles' bands faced (Cleaners from Venus and Orphans of Babylon).

A great read for anyone who has ever sung along to a record, or purchased a record because it had some special meaning attached.

EXCELLENT! 10 out of 10!!!!
