Product Description

The final volume in this Civil War trilogy. Perdita returns to Cornwall on a quest for her mother's family. She finds a brother she never knew she had, and a love which may lead her to the castle her father built for her mother during their romance. And Perdita's own romance might be possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars A cracking good read, 25 July 2000

Strong characters and a gripping plot held me enthralled through the small hours - this writer has an extraordinary insight into human behaviour.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as The Cornish Girl, 1 Nov 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Lost Daughter (Paperback)
I came to the end of this book with some relief...not that it was particularly bad,in fact some parts were quite enjoyable. On the whole however it was rather disappointing and long winded. It is the conclusion of a trilogy which began with The Cornish Girl and The Puritan's Wife and although each book is complete in itself, many of the same characters overlap into each one. Compared with The Cornish Girl, this book is left wanting, especially as I was looking foreward to reading about Perdita(daughter of the marvellous Margaret Hollar-main protaganist of The Cornish Girl).Unfortunately I didn't find Perdita particularly likeable, not because she's sly, scheming and selfish, more for the fact that although she wasn't unintelligent, she occasionally gave the impression she was.I found her character quite frustrating at times! The end of the book(not giving too much away) was both happy and sad but not entirely satisfying. If you like novels set in 17th Century England,I would recommend this trilogy, especially The Cornish Girl. Also recommended in the 17th Century/Civil War genre are Pamela Belle's Wintercombe series and Moon In The Water trilogy.
