Product Description

Product Description
As a child, Dave Pelzer was brutally beaten and starved by his mother. The world knew nothing of his living nightmare and he had nothing and no one to turn to. But his dreams kept him alive - dreams of someone taking care of him, loving him and calling him their son. Finally, his horrific plight could no longer be hidden from the outside world and Dave's life radically changed. THE LOST BOY is the harrowing - but ultimately uplifting - true story of a boy's journey through the foster-care system in search of a family to love. The continuation of Dave Pelzer's story is a moving sequel and inspirational read for all. 'Essentially, THE LOST BOY is a story of regeneration and resilience ... What has made Dave Pelzer's story a bestseller is that it is also a story of redemption. It is a story where love, kindness, patience and endurance triumph' Daily Mail

He has dedicated his life to helping others help themselves.

4.0 out of 5 stars His next stage recorded for posterity, 18 May 2006
By Some Bloke (UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Dave's is an incredible story, but this is not the most shocking part of it. It needed to be told because after reading the prequel you want to know what happened, and that's its role really - filling in the gap.

It follows him from his rescue through foster homes and in his search to find his place in life. He tells it honestly and you get a sense of the confusion and hopes to find acceptance. It's a sad story, but not in the same league as 'Child Called It'.

Some of it, although a part of the story, perhaps isn't so relevant to today. For example, there is far less suspicion of foster kids, and although things are way off ideal, the system works a bit better. The tales of Miss Gold, his counsellor, are great and he makes her sound a wonderful person. SOme of the childish awe is recollected well.

I wonder what the objective of the story is. If it's to continue the story so you find out what happened - 4 stars. If it's as a social document to instigate change - 2 or 3 because it's seen as old hat now. Entertainment? It's very readable and quite revealing about Pelzer himself. 4 stars.

The jaw-dropping, shocking, tear jerking tales have gone, and he's moved on. Now it's just grim, but if you read the first one, you'll want to read this one, won't you?

5.0 out of 5 stars Sad, 9 Oct 2006
After reading Dave's first book, "A Child Called 'It'" I needed to read this follow up title to see what eventually became of the little boy. "The Lost Boy" details Dave's life after he was removed from his mother's home and into foster care. The book is well written and again draws the reader into it's harrowing accounts of child abuse. Although this title does not have the shock value that the first book had it's a gripping story of Dave's constant struggle with his own self image as a teen, his heart breaking journey through the homes of numerous foster homes and his ultimate search for answers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read....., 7 Aug 2007
By N. Smith - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I read this book while on holiday, I'd never really heard of it before but thought I would buy it while in Cyprus. As an avid reader I figured that I'd enjoy it but hadn't banked on what actually happened......

.....I cracked the book open on a Sunday morning intending to take it to the pool in the afternoon - that didn't happen. I became so engrossed into Dave Pelzers life that I found myself laying on a bed all day reading & I'm ashamed to say not even seeing the other people we'd gone on holiday with all day! I did however finish the book on the same day which in a way I was a bit disappointed by although when you read how many things Pelzer went through as a young boy you're actually relieved that the books finished & that was the end of the bad times for him.

This book tugs at your heart strings & is impossible to put down. It's a shame that it often take something this horrific to happen to someone before some people will pick up a book.

I recommend this book - only open it if you have time to become engrossed though! You have been warned!
