Format: Hardcover
This book is the ideal introduction to some very rare and fascinating ancient scriptures that, for one reason or another, weren't included in the Jewish or Christian Bibles. The only other way of finding out about these works is to consult either brief discussions in academic encyclopedias or else full scholarly critical works. The great thing about this edition is its accessibility and very clear layout, enhanced by beautiful illustrations. Most of all, it's fascinating to read where famous legends like the fall of Satan comes from, and the meeting of Peter and Christ on the Appian Way, neither of which is in the 'official' Bible but were often depicted in Western European art. The author is a Christian scholar but his style is very balanced and he wears his profound knowledge lightly. All in all a treasure of a book, well worth the price.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful By Andrew Whitney on 26 Nov. 2011
Format: Paperback
This book is a good collection of Introductions, Commentary and fragments of extracts that not in the bible. It does not contain full translation of the text, but can be found in "The Other Bible: Jewish Pseudepigrapha/Christian Apocrypha/Gnostic Scriptures/Kabbalah/Dead Sea Scrolls [Paperback] Willis Barnstone (Author)"
It a very good introduction to the text that not in the bible and fully illustrated (good for the eyes).
To complete your collection of texts that not in the bible, buy: The Other Bible,The Gospel of Judas [Paperback] second edition Rodolphe Kasser,The Nag Hammadi Scriptures: The Revised and Updated ed Marvin Meyer and The Encyclopedia of Lost and Rejected Scriptures: The Pseudepigrapha and Apocrypha by Joseph B. Lumpkin.

Format: Paperback
Beautifully published with pictures, an interesting insight into secret knowledge on Christianity. Reads easily. The paper quality is nice but the sheets are quite thick which makes the book heavy and thick.
