There is a chapter on making the most of your garden that gives invaluable tips on making the garden a place to relax, but still leaving scope for some pleasurable work, while a chapter on the planting picture gives advice on narrowing the choice to 'hardworking' plants, but leaving room for some 'guilty pleasures', as well as providing planting schemes and ideal plant combinations.

Although this book has some useful ideas it seems to be aimed at relatively inexperienced gardeners and I wonder how many people getting to the age where they need this advice will be that inexperienced? More a book that people who don't know what to give Granny for Christmas might buy than one that Granny herself may choose.
