This review is from: The Losers (Book One) (Paperback)
The Losers comic book series was published by Vertigo in 32 issues, from August 2003 to March 2006. It was then published in a series of five trade paperbacks.
However this imprint covers the first 12 issues, or two trade paperbacks and roughly ties in with the film of the same name that came out in 2010. The remainder is pulled together in The Losers (Book Two) Jock is just one of the fantastic artists to come out of the 2000AD stable, while Andy Diggle is a former 2000AD editor. Together they have created a fun, punchy, comic with plenty of attitude. Some of the early artwork is pretty poor, but then some of it is just incredible, Jock has an incredible eye for a good composition, and he is just getting better and better. The film has wisely mimicked his compositions for the official poster and for many scenes. Not all the artwork in this volume is by Jock, Shawn Martinbrough turns in a Hernandez-esque contribution, which is more legible, but has less attitude. The film does take some liberties with the plot, and if you get this volume, then you really should read the remainder of the strip. There is a decent plot spread across these volumes, and things are tied up in an appropriately explosive finale. Recommended, whether you are a fan of the film or not.
