As fairly recent (9 months) incomers to SouthWest Spain, we had very mixed results with our initial patio plantings due to lack of informed advice.
Mo more! With the aid of this book we can choose plants to suit their location, whether sun or shade, wind-protected or not, & also be better informed regarding drought resistance.
Although the book seemed expensive, we have saved money by not having to replace our mistakes at the local Viveros!

Excellent reference guide to even the more experienced, with a decent description and cultivation detail of all plants included. A good acquisition for the mediterranean gardener.

A must have reference book and easy explanation of many plants for us fortunate enough to live in Spain. Most expats try to create an English Garden in Spain to their cost. This book tells you what to plant in your garden and the right conditions, and whether you have them in the right place and what to do with them to keep them healthy very informative worth every penny.

I have quite a few books to assist me with the planning of my garden here in Silves, Portugal, but this is by far the best publication for someone like myself, that has a very limited knowledge of gardening.
This book is packed with very useful information and is written in plain English and accompanied with over 350 beautiful coloured photographs. Prior to obtaining this book (my second copy as the first got damaged through constant use). I was making many mistakes in choosing plants that for various reasons were not suitable for my hillside garden. Thanks to Lorraine Cavanagh, the success rate is now more positive and this has resulted in a great saving with both time and money.
This book will guide you through all the important planting issues i.e., water requirements, soil preferences, height and width of plant, flowering time and colours and temperature range etc. This is my bible to gardening in the Mediterranean and I strongly recommend this publication.

A useful pocket sized guide to popular mediterranean plants. Worth keeping handy for any visit to the garden centre, although there are quite a few plants not listed by the common names used here.

This is an excellent book for anyone planning a mediterranean garden. Each page features one plant with a colored photograph, clear description and instructions on how to grow it. Inspiring!
