1)Another exellent audio adaption by the ever excellent John Dorney of a Tv script by Ice Warrior's creator Brian Hayles.
2)Frazer Hines & Wendy Padbury do a fine job of performing & narrating this audio adventure.
3)It's a origin Ice Warrior's story with a twist.

It's overlong in places & the paces dips a little in parts due to it's 3 hours running time.

Michael Troughton is Patrick Troughtons son & Michael has recently wrote his father's autobiography.

Audio Info.
3x CDS Of a 6 part adventure, Running time 180 minutes approx, Trailer.

Wow this is an epic adventure.

At 3 hours long this origin of the Ice Warriors adventure is a excellent adaption to audio by the multi talented John Dorney who is also a actor in several Big Finish audio adventures.

Adapted from Brian Hayles Tv scripts John Dorney has crafted a story of mystery as this focuses on the planet Mars were the Second Doctor, Jamie & Zoe arrive in the Tardis at a point in time were the Ice Warriors have yet to become the inhabitants of Mars but to the Doctors shocking discovery this isn't the case at all.

Deep below the planet's surface a scientist is working for a insane Despot whom is conjuring up a sinister scheme of ruling Mars with a terrifying familiar army of warrior's by his side.

What is Zaadurs plan?, What is the dark secret of the Gandoran mines & what lengths shall the Doctor go to if he is to save his companions?

The impending arrival of Ice Warriors as the Lords of the Red Planet are about to rise from below the surface & can anybody survive the Martian Warrior's uprising?

Down the years, many stories have been written for Doctor Who that, for various reasons, never got to the tv screen.

Now, thanks to Big Finish adapting them for audio, we can find what might have been.

This story features the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe. It runs for six parts. Each of thirty three minutes in length [approx.] and is spread across three cd's.

This is a full cast drama with a lot of narration. Frazer Hines and Wendy Padbury, who played Jamie and Zoe back in the day, both narrate sections of the story and perform various roles also. They can switch back and forth with no prior warning. But the format is something you quickly get used to.

In addition, there are four guest actors - including Patrick Troughton's son Michael and Wendy Padbury's daughter Charlie Hayes, who perform selected roles.

The story is based on a storyline from writer Brian Hayles. Who wrote the first tv story to feature the Ice Warriors. This was his first pitch for a second story to feature the Martian Reptiles. And it's all about how they came to be.

The TARDIS lands on Mars. Long ago. When life on the surface is all but done. But it survives - just - in an underground city. Where a genius scientist has made great advances in genetics. Two sisters rule. One is vain. The other cold and calculating.

But further experiments are taking place. The Ice Warriors are about to come into being. Can anyone survive the result?

This is a six parter story, as mentioned. And they can often feel overlong. But somehow, this one doesn't. From the second part onwards, it is simply utterly absorbing. The two narrators and leads are great. As anyone who has heard Frazer Hines impression of the second Doctor will know, he really sounds the part.
