About the Author

Carolyn Jewel was born on a moonless night. That darkness was seared into her soul and she became an award winning author of historical and paranormal romance. She has a very dusty car and a Master’s degree in English that proves useful at the oddest times. An avid fan of fine chocolate, finer heroines, Bollywood films, and heroism in all forms, she has three cats and a dog. Also a son. One of the cats is his. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read 25 April 2011

I'm very glad to have downloaded this book. It's definitely a more modern take on the Regency novel but written with great elegance that keeps the spirit. The characters are complex and well drawn, with the mystery elements tying in well. The only thing that grated a little was the names but that was easily ignored. I'm definitely going to look out for other novels from this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Read 20 Sep 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Despite the unpromising title, this is a lovely Regency romance. It centres around the hasty marriage of Lord Ruin and Anne Sinclair. I enjoyed reading his side of the story and it was a refreshing change to read of the rake falling hopelessly in love before the innocent virgin bride succumbs! Ms. Jewel writes very well and there's plenty of sensual loveplay and sexy scenes (is there anywhere in the house they didn't perform?!). Sometimes the 'token mystery' writers include just get in the way being so incidental as to be superfluous, but the plot kept my interest to the end. My slight criticism would be the naming of the hero - really, why must writers think it's so amusing to give their sexy leads names like Lord Ruan/Ruin (get it) and Insincere Cynssyr - please! But don't let the title put you off, this is a great book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read and interesting story 13 April 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book as it was in the best seller list for Historical Romance and was only 70pence so thought I'd give it a try. I have to agree with the other review that says ignore the corney names etc as this was a really good story line and the romance and relationship which builds between the main charaters is great. My biggest criticism was the that the end felt rushed (both with t he crime plot and the romance) and I think the book could have done with tying up some loose ends. The main characters seem to suddenly get it all together but I woudl have liked to have seen either an epilogue or an follow on book for the other character (Devon and Thrale which appear to start and story line in the book) which could then have given more info on this couple as time went on. I did have a quick look and couldn't see a follow on book. I realsie that not everything should be neatly tied up but as I said somethings needed to be to stop the end seeming rushed.
There were also gramatical and spelling errors in the kindle version which were few and didn't spoil the story.
Overall I would recommend this book and would buy other books by Carolyn Jewel.
