Format: Hardcover
This attractive set comprises a book, a map, a ring and and a forty-card deck, all of which come in a luxury book-style box which is held fast by a green ribbon. It is sub-titled 'A Mystical Pack with Middle-earth Cards, Map and Ring for Divination and Revelation'. The different components of this set can be used in conjunction with each other in various combinations and Donaldson's instructions on how to do so are in simple, straightforward language . The map is large and glossy, and shows the various realms in which 'the action' of the epic story takes place. The ring lets the set down somewhat as it appears to be made from plaster and is of inferior quality when compared with the rest of the set.

The hard-backed book, although only eighty pages long, delivers not only the usual instructions and explanations, but also some very good sample readings, some excellent suggestions for meditation, plus biographical information about Tolkien and a section 'About Terry Donaldson'.

The borderless cards themselves are beautifully illustrated and appear to be in no particular order, being un-numbered. They show 'characters, creatures, races, various beings and some locations', e.g., 'Forest of Mirkwood', 'Shelob's Lair', 'Old Man Willow', and 'the Ghost Army of Dunharrow'. The illustrations appear to have been done on textured paper using various media such as pencil, charcoal and water colours. For each card, Donaldson gives a description of the card, the esoteric meaning, personal indications and reversed meanings.

I'm a bit late in writing this review. unlike my order which arrived very quickly.which I am very pleased with .Got lots of oracles and decks and have read both tarot and runes for others this I use in a very informal manner for myself yet it is constantly very accurate .Its like asking an old and trusted friend for council it. so this is my spare as this oracle is getting harder to obtain and I don't think its up for reprint !.

Not Bad, but not great 30 Oct. 2003
By Arielle - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I would first off, like to start by saying I am a huge Tolkien fan as well as tarot card collector. When I came by this deck on sale at a book store, I new I had to buy it because I love The Lord of The Rings as well as divination. This deck is relatively good, especially for the small price I paid for it. It provides an interesting look into middle earth. The artwork on the cards are okay, not exactly breath taking, but even so it works fine.
The book provides pretty good describtions of the cards meanings, and works just fine for an orcale reading.
Some people say that Tolkien would not have approved of an orcale deck, being that he was a Catholic. Well I believe that is rubbish. If Tolkien wrote stories containing things such as wizardy and elf magic, I highly doubt he would be so intolerant of sometime like this. He wanted to create a legend, and this deck farther proves how influential Lord of the Rings is.
I do not recommand this to divination practicers who have not read or seen 'The Lord of The Rings'. Nor do I recommanded it to narrowminded people. If you are a Tolkien fan and you like orcale cards, this is a great set for you.

Don't waste your money, I'll give you mine. 8 May 2008
By G. O. Couch - Published on Amazon.com
I must confess that I have not read the oracle book that comes with this set, so I can't comment on it. I didn't bother to read it because I was completely turned off by the artwork of the cards themselves; terrible, terrible artwork. I am appalled that this set was even published and feel foolish for having purchased it. The cards themselves are nothing but amateur, unfinished sketches. As sketches they look like they show some little bit of promise, but the artist never went beyond the sketches to come up with a finished product. It literally looks like the publisher figured they had a week to put out a product that might possibly ride the coattails of the movies' success. Unfortunately, this product is only suitable for the roundfile.
