5.0 out of 5 stars Eruptions of Grace, 23 Nov 2006
By Tom Jamieson (Tyneside, England) - See all my reviews
Some books are important, some are exciting; The Lord of the Ring is both. Phil Anderson has written a biography which is at the same time a journal of his own pilgrimage, and a celebration of a movement which is now. If you share his convictions even just a little bit, this book will set your heart ablaze. If you don't, well it might just do that to you anyway!

Count Zinzendorf, eighteenth century nobleman of Saxony, is the key figure in an eruption of the grace of God centred on a small village called Herrnhut, which touched the lives of slaves in the Caribbean, native Americans, southern African tribespeople, and Europeans longing for the reality of God - among them John Wesley. Phil Anderson has researched this story rigorously, yet tells it with a passion only possible in one who is caught up in a parallel, contemporary eruption of the same grace, the spill-over of which has only just begun.

Important? certainly. Exciting? off the scale!

5.0 out of 5 stars flying high, 24 Dec 2006
By Andrew Price (Colchester UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A very useful biography giving an insight into Zinzendorf and the wider Moravian Communities. I especially found interesting the insight into how the movement went 'off track' for a while with various excesses. Surely a lesson to us today. I find myself wondering if they could have had a wider impact as a movement had they been more of a 'denomination'(yuk!) but marvel at the widespread influence they still exert in not doing so. A very good read made all the more interesting with Phil's personal journey interspersed throughout.
