Product Description

Product Description
Golding's best-known novel is the story of a group of boys who, after a plane crash, set up a fragile community on a previously uninhabited island. As memories of home recede and the blood from frenzied pig-hunts arouses them, the boys' childish fear turns into something deeper and more primitive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Disturbing yet brilliantly written, 30 Nov 2001
This is a compelling novel, despite the content which is disturbing but true. Golding has turned young innocent children into animalistic savages, with stunning imagery and language that we have come to expect from him.

This edition is particually useful for anyone studying Lord of the Flies at school or college. The introductiion is very worth reading, giving background and insight into the book, helping with understanding of the plot and symbolism. The notes in the back are also interesting, explaining Goldings neologism "flinked" as well as most other points of interest in the novel. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars the best classic by far, 29 Jul 2003
By A Customer
after studying this as a GCSE text, it is clear how well Golding has written this book....with excellent features such as language, style and structure, alongside the fantastic storyline, it is definately one that has an impact.....each boy is a representation of the society that we live in, and the island our surroundings....if you are not able to see the deeper meaning in the book of good versus evil it does not matter...it is a great story in itslef which is entertaining and gripping from page one.

i recommend it to everyone, young or old...and if possible, please appreciate the deeper meaning of the text, because it is that which has made me read the book again and again!

5.0 out of 5 stars "All we have is the rules", 16 April 2009

Ever fantasize that you are on an island free from the restraints of society? William Golding has taken that scenario to the nth in this story of a bunch of English boys, plane wrecked on an island during WWII.

We see the fabric of society slowly and most assuredly ripping as the rules are discarded one by one. Golding is very graphic in his description of the demise of pigs and plants.

One will never look at fun and games in the same way.
