5.0 out of 5 stars The Lord of Death 27 Dec 2010
By Noel
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is another wonderful atmospheric book in Mr Pattison's 'Shan' series. Somewhat shorter than the earlier books in the series, but it took only a few lines to capture my attention and transport me to the mountains of Tibet. The characters are well drawn and the descriptions of the towns, villages and people are very evocative. But what a vision of Tibet it is. In the Author's Note at the end of the book we are reminded that the author has not exaggerated the oppression of the indigenous Tibetan people. I almost felt like a voyeur, and guilty for deriving so much pleasure from reading the book. Nevertheless I eagerly await the next episode in Shan's life and recommend this good read.

This time we go to the Himalayas . The series provides us with a course in Buddhism, Tibetan history and anthropology and now a trip up the Himalayas. And a mystery. And a happy ending. And hearts that are changed. What more could we want?

5.0 out of 5 stars tibetan whodunnits 20 Sep 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Eliot Paterson is a great writer - his Tibetan whodunnits are masterpieces. A bit raw in parts but the reality (and psychology) of China's occupation of Tibet are subtly exposed.
