What a winner!, 6 Dec 2007
This review is from: Loppylugs and the Dam (Paperback)
I gave this book to my 10 year old, a little older than the age group suggested, but she loved it! Handing it over after school, peace and quiet fell upon our living room. In the place of a loud television blaring out cartoons, sat my daughter, tv off, curled up on the couch reading this book from start to finish in one sitting!
She absolutely loved it!
Loppylugs is an odd looking dog, 'I'm a bit of this and a bit of that and I don't do much' he claims.
Easy for a child to read and understand. Fantastic drawings throughout. Just the right length of book to keep the child interested and reading, turning over the pages again and again until they get to the end, and then its big smiles all around!
So impressed was my daughter with this book she has passed it onto a friend, with the demand that 'you give it right back when your done!'
Very well done to the author!
We look ahead with anticipation to your next story!

Doggy heaven, 7 Nov 2007
This review is from: Loppylugs and the Dam (Paperback)
I saw Loppylugs being read to a group of primary school children in Llandudno and they loved it. It is so rare to see children so quiet! Until, that is the end when they cheered and applauded.
Loppylugs is based on a real dog, a lovable soft creature. You have many elements that touch children in this story - the dog thought it looked too odd for anyone to love him and so was in a rescue home. Adventure is in here such as exploring the environment around his new home and then discovering danger. Conflict is a must in every story and there is in this one with the village in danger.
Brian Lux is a natural story teller and the book is worth owning for the beautifully crafted illustrations alone - by Helen Lake.
Every library should have at least one copy, as should every home with children and grandchildren.

Loppylugs and the Dam is a winner for children., 5 Nov 2007
This review is from: Loppylugs and the Dam (Paperback)
This is a truly delightful book for children based on the author's own dog. Loppylugs comes to life in the pages and young readers can enjoy the pleasure he feels in belonging to a family at last. They can join with him and his friends in the adventure that unfolds. For children who perhaps don't have a pet I think they could love Loppylugs as their own, especially as a photo of the real Loppylugs can be found on the author's website.
The book is wonderfully illustrated on every page which is what young children like. The likeness to the real Loppylugs is splendid.
Reading this book to a child at bedtime will send them to sleep with contentment, and if they are able to read it for themselves they will find the writing style simple and easy to understand.
I hope there will be more of the same from Brian Lux as 'Loppylugs and the Dam' fares most favourably with other books I have seen for this age group.
