One of the best knitting books out there - beautiful and innovative patterns that push the boundaries with lace knitting. I'm looking forward to knitting many of the patterns in this book if I can just get past the first one (the Palm Leaf Wrap). Somewhat frustratingly it has some errors and as the book was only recently published, it seems that all the errata and suggested fixes aren't really out there yet (though STC Craft has posted a few on their website). I guess that's the only downside to this book - but I did want it soon after it was published, and not to have to wait for a corrected reprint, so that's the pay-off. The patterns are truly beautiful - I love what Teva does with chunky yarn and lace - really magnifying traditional lace (which is often knitted with fine yarn on microscopic needles) and almost "supersizing" it. This results in a modern, cutting edge result that makes lace look really funky and interesting, not just pretty/girly/traditional. I look forward to Teva's next book - this is a really amazing development on the original Loop-d-loop book and contains loads of interesting information on the stitches/stitch types she's chosen to use.

I bought this because I am an intermediate knitter who enjoys lace patterns and I wanted an aspirational book. I was delighted with the designs in here, they are modern and wearable, I would like to do so many of them. They are grouped by types of lace pattern, and some of them are breathtakingly beautiful. There is a good range of sizes and she notes the ease of the measurements for each one, so that the knitter can choose the size that will suit both the body and the temperament of the wearer.

I have not yet worked through any of the patterns so I cannot talk about the accuracy and ease of the instructions. I may come back to that, and that is why I have only given it four stars for now.

For those not familiar with this designer, she creates amazingly visual and sometimes extremely complex and detailed patterns. This book is divided into 5 sections, Mesh, Eyelets,Samplers, Leaves and Doilies, each section has a variety of items. The beginning of this book is a description of how this designer started and her approach to her subject.Following, there are well photographed pages of the items and a description of the pieces , these include a couple of hats, socks, several shrugs and capelets , as well as the ubiquitous cushion cover and bed bolster, these patterns always irritate me, but I forgive her as the others more than make up for what is a knitted square ! There are several jumpers and jackets with zips in the mesh section. There are a few very stunning and complex patterns which would require advanced knitting skills and a degree of patience, a gorgeous lace sleeveless tunic/ dress, reminiscent of shetland lace, a sunray tunic, knitted in thick chunky wool and another beautiful and intricate pattern for a thistle top. However the patterns are in no way frilly or flouncy ( the cover picture is slightly misleading and not really representative of the style of this book I think ).The patterns here are stylish and elegant apart from the section featuring thicker weight wools.
Also there are the items which make one smile, a knitted skirt and a fabulous pair of bloomers.
A few of the patterns are simpler and knitted in thicker wool so could be managed by the less experienced knitter,( I found these less interesting and exciting ) but over all I would suggest this is a book with some challenging and complex patterns, several involving two or three pages of lace charts.
The instructions are clearly presented and the photographs are good, at £10.00 its also good value for money.

I love TEVA DURHAM'S books . This is the second one I have purchased and I keep paging through it again and again . I always thought that lace was a rather old-fashioned and time-consuming thing to knit .This book proves my opinion to be totally wrong ...so many really modern things to do with lace, many using really big ,chunky yarn as well . There are many traditional style patterns as well, but all with a "Teva-twist ". There is something for everyone here.
