Product Description

Review

"Edgy, gritty, and dark, Sue Rann's debut novel is set in Amsterdam...Rann is able to take a story that in less gifted hands might seem outlandish and make it absolutely mesmerizing. The violence and suspense are palpable, and the characters completely riveting. A must-read from a promising new writer." --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Barry Forshaw, Crime Time Magazine

Combines the gritty atmosphere of Ian Rankin with the wry humour of Janet Evanovich ... as witty as it is readable. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

I liked this book very much. As a business-man who visits Amsterdam often I was not expecting too much, especially from a British writer! I think you have your own concept and vision of a city that you know and sometimes other people's visions clashes together with what you feel about it. But this book surprised me a lot, it made me laugh and feel sad also about the different ways people live in a modern European city. I liked the science base for the thriller plot, it's not too silly, a good extrapolation of what's current in biotec (that's my business!). But what I enjoyed most was the way the story and the caracters all wove around the very small center of Amsterdam, you get a chance to see what the tourists see but from a very different point of view of homeless people. There isn't snow and ice very much in NL now (with global warming I guess it's the same all over) so it's nice to read this book and be able to read about Amsterdam in the snow and the canals all frozen! I have a friend who lives in a house-boot just like Wolf, and I am going to tell him he must buy this book!

I was given this book as a gift by the author, who's a friend of mine. I'm not usually a big crime or thriller fan, but this book hooked me from the first sentence and didn't let go till the last full stop - I know the fact that I know the author must compromise my detached stance a bit, but I'm happy to say I don't have to make things up about 'Looking For Mr Nobody': it really is an enthralling read and if I didn't know, I wouldn't have guessed it was her first book. The writing is faultless - I hate it when you can spot a writer trying to be clever, or consciously writing in a particular style, but Sue doesn't do this at all, whether you're with Robin, the heroine (she rocks! what more can I say?) or Wolf, the charmingly shambly (and sexily helpless, fwwooarr!!) vagrant hero, you're just happy to be along for the ride. Sue Rann takes your hand on page 1 and says 'trust me': she never betrays that writer-reader trust all the way through, and I think that's one of the best things about this book. Buy it and read it, you'll love it! Buy it for all your family and friends, they'll love it too! Happy Hal :-)

As every avid reader knows, a book is more than a story ... it has pace, voice and depth too, each of which has to come close to expectations unless the book is to be a disappointment. Rarely, very rarely, you'll come across a book that also has a life of its own ... it plays in your head as you read, you watch the action in your mind's eye.

Looking for Mr Nobody by Sue Rann, is such a book. A beautifully woven tale of crime and adventure, brought to life with vivid characters, vibrant description, skillful use of language and a wicked sense of humour.

You'll read it once for the story, the second time because you can't quite believe how cleverly it's been put together, then several times more for the great one-liners, or to watch it play again.
