Biography

Grammy Award winning rock and roll legend Joe Walsh returns with Analog Man, his first solo album in two decades to be released on June 5th, 2012 from Fantasy Records/Concord. Analog Man is both modern and timelessly soulful, packed with Walsh’s beloved wit, charm and chops; it delivers an incredibly raw and intimate sound.

I heartily concur, GG. This is a satisfying double cd anthology, which succeeds in presenting a good career retrospective. Perhaps a slight negative with some of the material chosen for the second cd, where the quality slips just a little. The first disc starts with a nice selection of James Gang material, including the excellent "Take A Look Around", "Funk #48", "Funk #49", a long version of "The Bomber" and "Walk Away". Then comes about half the "Barnstorm" album, but only a couple of cuts from "The Smoker....".

The second cd starts off with most of the vital stuff from "So What", but lacks the definitive version of "Turn To Stone". Only a couple of tracks from "But Seriously Folks...." and NOT, very unfortunately, the fabulous "Theme From Boat Weirdos" instrumental. Real shame, because i'd rather have had the single edit of "Life's Been Good" plus "TFBW".

Thereafter, tracks are taken from the subsequent releases, which arguably do NOT rate amongst Joe's finest. Four from "You Bought It.....You Name It" and three from "Songs For A Dying Planet". Personally, i'd have preferred something from the "Sick Mind" live album or an extra from "But Seriously Folks...", or "In The City". Those would have helped to maintain the highest quality right to the very end, and made this a fully five-star item.

In spite of all that, a very worthwhile trawl through the ordinary, average guy's back catalogue.

We all know that some times record companys like to try and earn a few more bucks out of their artists by knocking out [best of`s] but! this is different, A fantastic collection that brings us right up to date!! starting with songs from the James Gang era to modern material a double CD with 34 toons. A bargain I would say and this is never far from my CD player , home , car or van! Anyone wishing to gain an insight in to the extraordinary skills of Joe Walsh should purchase this superb retrospective collection of his work over the years(long may it continue).Contained within is a very broad spectrum of his vast range of abilities, together with his awesome great charm and observational wit and humour, which is ever present throughout. The man is totally BRILLIANT!!!!Listen to his fantastic cynical;wry take on life, and all it's ups and downs, along with his bonkers humour;it's completely contagious. What a star;what a wit;what a cracking album.10 out of 10.
