Brummies Do It Better......................, 16 Jul 2005
Finally Fuzz Fans get what they wanted a complete Greatest Hits compilation!!! The CD starts with the girls first single Rules and Regulations(the one that first got me interested back in 86), and works through their hits in release order including the wonderful collaboration with The Nightingales and Ted chippington "Rocking with Rita", released under the name "The Vindaloo Summer special" It's great to get the Bostin Steve Austin tracks finally on CD. Favourites have to be Love is The Slug and Whats The Point. Slotted among the singles are some surprise rare tracks icluding rare vocals from drummer Tina on "Taking The Easy Way Out". In my opinion the first half of the CD is far superior as it features the original essence of Fuzzbox - 4 girls from Birmingham who admitted that they weren't very good but came up with some fanatastic tunes that have stood the test of time, and in retrospect feature more talent and creativity than the majority of the top 40 of today put together! However the second half of the CD is superb on another level. The girls went away after the sucess of their first album and returned a little more polished, produced and professional with their album Big Bang! Forget Busted and their lame Thunderbirds theme, Fuzzbox had it sorted sixteen years previous! The pop sound had landed on planet Fuzzbox with uplifting summery hits such as Pink Sunshine, International Rescue and Self all big UK hits plus the strange choice of single Walking On Thin Ice a cover of a track originally recorded by Yoko Ono. The final Fuzzbox single is included "Your Loss My Gain" but don't worry there's still more! Four Fuzzbox favourites have been bought bang up to date with big remixes!! Fantastic. And just when you thought you couldn't cope with anymore Fuzz Fun after all these years of waiting, you get the complete Fuzzbox videos on DVD!! Charting the girls rise to fame from cheap but perfectly suited early videos (most of these are hilarious), through to the big bold beautiful videos from the Big Bang CD. The CD is worth buying for this DVD collection alone!! Well this compilation has made me a happy bunny but I won't be totally happy until we are able to get "Bostin Steve Austin" on CD. Any chance of sorting it out soon girls????
