The latest edition of the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English is one of the most user-friendly dictionaries ESL learners will find to help them understand natural English usage. With more than 150,000 real-life examples, this dictionary effectively shows how English works in both formal and informal situations.

This new version of Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English is definitely a major reference for students of English and their teachers. The definitions are clear and simple for they are written using only 2,000 frequently used words (as defined in Longman Defining Vocabulary). Special features of this dictionary include: (i) Highlighting of top 3,000 words in spoken and written English; this allows students to target the most important words in the language, (ii) Word Focus Boxes and Usage Notes; they help the users to choose the right word for the right context and (iii) ��Signposts�� in longer entries; they guide the users straight to the meaning they want. As a non-native speaker, sometimes I find it difficult to look for slang or colloquial vocabularies in other dictionaries but when I give up looking for such words' meaning and try this dictionary I borrowed from friend, it never disappoints me. Also it explains the use of each word which I think is as important as the meaning of the word itself because if we only know what it means but use it in incorrect context, we may not get ourselves understood or it could lead to complete misunderstandings. Great buy, not so expensive. I would recommend it to everyone who uses English as a second language.
